oy, looks like I’m gonna be taking my spot on the waitlist, I was rejected by the rest of my top choice schools except for the Ivies and Amherst, and I really doubt that those are gonna be the ones that alter the trend.

^I’m not sure how they feel about additional materials beyond the update letter, but you should give them a call and ask if you can have that letter sent again. Could help quite a bit.

@LoremIpsum - Thank you. I copied the numbers incorrectly from my own post!

My S was waitlisted at Wesleyan and we were disappointed. In spite of that, Wesleyan deserves a measure of praise for providing all of the information a student or parent in our situation might be interested in seeing and it is all right on their own website. Their numbers for 2010 - 2011 were: Applied 10657; Admitted 2190; Acceptance Ratio 20.5%; Enrolled 748; Yield 34.2%; Offered the Waitlist 1859; Accepted Waitlist 645 or 34.7%; Admitted from Waitlist 88 or 13.6%; Percent Admitted from all offered the Waitlist 4.7%. Their correspondence was honest and the information both readily available and transparent.

You can remain on or ask to be left on or put on (depending upon each school’s policies) as many waitlists as you want. The issue concerns making a deposit on time at a school where you have been accepted. You will have to make a deposit BEFORE you hear from any of the schools where you are waitlisted. IF you do ultimately get an offer off a wiatlist, you will have to decide what you want to do (which is likely to mean you will forfeit your deposit).

we live in Ct, my son just got waitlisted from Uconn; last college we heard from and pretty hard to accept right now as financially that was our number 1 choice, but this is what is really hard to accept; He has a 3.46 GPA, 1220 SAT - Math and Verbal, lots of community service, which was heavily influenced due in part to his battling Leukemia through High School. We are so disappointed, as he is a pretty awesome kid …
accepted to;
Fordham

Northeastern
Saint Joseph’s
Drexel

all very expensive so far! What kind of stats does one need to get into their own state school???

In her heart, Wes was far and away her top choice. She had great stats and continuing demonstrated passions and national awards. She was waitlisted (to everyone’s surprise) but had other very solid choices. Yesterday, Stanford accepted her, which changed her perspective. Another friend received a likely letter from Yale and was also waitlisted at Wes. This is certainly turning into a strange and unpredictable admissions year.

But, she will most likely (almost sadly) be giving up her waitlist space at Wes (which she immediately secured) - she is truly excited about Stanford and is still waiting for the Ivies today.

Best of luck to all - Wes is a great school.

^Waitlist isn’t ranked actually, it’s #4 on the FAQ page they sent with the waitlist decision. They do say that a rating system was employed during admissions decisions and thus they use that to choose who comes off it first. I think our interest letter affects it as well.

@extremus this thread is 5 years old. I think you are better off starting a new thread for 2016 wait listed applicants. Also, Wesleyan and most us colleges are either need aware for international applicants or simply do not meet your need because the endowment funds ate typically designated for us residents. It will be extremely unusual for you to get financial aid. The UC system, for example, openly recruits foreign applicants only because those who join pay full fare.
