Waitlisters

any waitlisters patiently waiting for a reply from BC!? i really want to get into this scchool, it was a dream school since freshmen year! =x although i already paid my deposit to another school!(im sort of getting a full ride from this school) if I get accepted I think im definitely going as long as the financial aid is decent. I was an EA applicant, got deferred and waitlisted for RD! I wrote letters to BC, to show my continued interest, and i just want to know now! i know that majority of the ppl who got accepted from my school would not be attending, so hopefully i can get their spot (if it works that way!) ahhh i just cant wait till they go through their waitlist list!

Best of luck to you, I hope to see you there next year!

Confusedgirl I am in the same exact boat as you. Hopefully we both get in and see each other next year as part of BC’s Class of 2015

Unless a college has an early problem with yield, don’t expect them to go to the WL until early May. The post cards/deposits are not due until Sunday, so colleges won’t know who is coming – or if they have extra slots – until they open the mail next week.

Good luck.

The daughter of one of my friends has been waitlisted. Anybody know how many students are taken off the wait list annually? Does BC publish such data?

Thanks for any information.

sry, Alexandre, the data is not published or if it is, I haven’t run across it. Which I guess is not surprsing…with a couple of smallish programs (Nursing & Education), yield has to be tracked closely. And with the Arts & Sciences and the b-school, I would guess that gender plays a role.

For others on the WL, search for posts by scottj who offers excellent suggestions on making the case for 'Why BC?", which is critical at this stage.

BC said in their waitlist letter to not write or send them any extra material because it won’t change anything. Is this true?

NYsoccer, yes, that is true. By waitlisting you, BC has already said they would like to have you attend if they had room. You don’t need to sell them on your qualifications anymore, so sending “extra material” at this point really won’t do anything (except perhaps annoy them). The only thing that matters now is which, and how many, of their accepted students turn BC down, so there’s nothing you can do.

With that I disagree. Yes, you obviously don’t want to annoy anyone, but waiting is not of much value in my opinion. The unhooked are competing with in-the-know GCs who are calling to lobby on their students’ behalf.

BC has basically said that you are qualified, Wait Lister, but we like thousands of others better enough to make them an initial offer. IMO, what that means is something (or things) in the application was weaker than others, or at least perceived that way. And, if one looks at app objectively, a WL’er can try to address that weakness now. For example, perhaps it was ‘low’ Math II score, but yet WL’er is pulling an A in Calc BC second semester…in such a case, a grade update could be a plus.

Comments from scottj about EA deferrals, which I think hold for WL’ers, particularly the discussion about the essay.

Like the previously attached quote from scottj, here’s an excellent writeup (from the Columbia thread) for how to handle being on the waitlist.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/1121583-what-waitlist-all-your-questions-answered.html</a></p>

Also, a few years back a friend of mine worked in the admissions offices for two top-20 universities. She told me, at most, one can send a one page letter from the student stating your interest and any new relevant information. If someone other than the student sends material to them or if you supply additional recommendations or rehash information that was already submitted, it will work against you.

This may help get a better feel for your chances to get off the waitlist. From BC’s own letter they state that in recent years about 2000 students were placed on the wait list, and that they have enrolled between 50 and 300 from that active waitlist. If someone is admitted off the waitlist, they will be eligible for housing and financial aid based on availability.
Good luck to you all, but mentally prepare yourself to have a wonderful college experience at the college where you have already submitted your deposit.

This post has some info concerning waitlists. Although it doesn’t answer your question, you might want to start following it to see which schools are starting to turn to their respective WLs. Good luck to you, confusedgirl123! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1129279-2011-going-off-their-waitlist.html</a></p>

Confusedgirl I’m in the same boat-deferred EA as well! All this waiting is hard!

I am in the same situation. BC has been my dream school since forever. I was deferred from early action then wait listed. I was really disappointed that I was wait listed. So I put my deposit on another school but wonder when we would know when we get in of the wait list if we do get in? I know a friend who got in off the wait list May 7th two years ago but she also knew a connection. I just really want to get in! Do you think very little money would be given if admitted?

US News and World Report has information on waitlist and the number accepted off the waitlist. If I recall, there were about 250 students accepted off the waitlist last year, but there was a waitlist of 3,000.

did any of you hear from the school yet…? I didn’t and my agora hasn’t changed? Do you know if they go through the waitlist by region? name?

D got a call today admitting her off of the Waitlist.

Details to follow by mail.

There is still hope for those who would be Eagles!

congrats marbles. I hope the numbers work out for you.

The “letter” will apparently contain FA information. We are hopeful that even though she got in off of the WL that some FA is still available? Is this naive? Anyway, BC has been one of her Top choices for a long while so we have our fingers crossed!

You should keep checking agora. The financial info will show up there, as well.
