...but I'm waitlisted on everything except Math, which makes me really nervous.

My question is: my 4-year plan says to take MATH, CHEM, and an AMERICAN CULTURE. I wanted to swap fine arts and the american culture for this quarter, but as you can see, I'm #13 on the waitlist...

Should I just enroll in american culture, or hope that MUS 1A clears up? Or just DGAF if it doesn't and take 3 classes?

are we talking about the lecture or discussion? if 10% of the class drops from discussion, it means only 3 people get in from the waitlist. and that would seem reasonable, wouldnt it?

Hmm i guess i shouldnt doubt what everyone is saying… haha.

From what i see, it seems like the lectures dont have a size limit. But its the discussions, so if all the discussions are full, then you dont get into the lecture?

The lectures do have a size limit. It’s the number of people per discussion multiplied by the number of discussion sections, so yeah, if you don’t get the discussion you’re not in the class.

What should we do if our major-specific classes (I’m an electrical engg major), like Phys2a and ECE15 are full with waitlists of 40 ppl and 20 ppl respectively?? Should I go on and waitlist anyway? Or go for GE classes or something?

^It seems unlikely that you would get into those classes unless they open up more spots. Really the only thing you can do is take other classes that you need. I feel like this shouldn’t push back your graduation time as long as you continue to take classes that you need. You’ll probably have to double up on EE classes at some point like ECE 30 and 35.

Oh, there are a bunch of spots left in Chem 6A… but I really want the 12:00-12:50 lecture. My math is already enrolled in 1:00-1:50 so my only other Chem 6A option would be the 3:00-3:50, blarg.

5 on a waitlist isn’t that bad right? Or should I just go sign up for 3:00-3:50, since that doesn’t seem THAT bad, just a bit weird to have a 1 hour break between classes.

^I honestly don’t know. I was waitlist #3 in a class and didn’t get in, so crazier things have happened. I’d like to think you’d get into the class, but if necessary, a one hour break isn’t THAT bad especially since the lecture hall for chem is right outside of your dorm.

KingsElite which class were you waitlisted at #3 if you don’t mind me asking? I’m waitlisted at the same spot for a Math 20C class. lol But I do know that nothing is guaranteed of course, it all depends on the students in the class and whether they decide to drop the class or not, but is Math 20C more or less likely to have students drop the course (if you would happen to know)? BTW what happens if we don’t get into the class we’re waitlisted for if it’s something required like 20C?

^It was Chem 6B. Other lectures were open so it wasn’t like I couldn’t get the class, but I wanted that lecture. Honestly, I was pretty sure 3 people would drop, so I think you’ll get into the class in your case, but there are other spots open for Math 20C, so I think you’ll be ok if you don’t get in.

In terms of waitlists, I am fully aware of the 10% rule. But I want to ask about a specific class: Music 114 (Music of the 20th century). It has a max of 150 seats, and there are currently a few people on waitlist. Does this specific class deviate from the 10% rule?

I appreciate the response. I know I ask a lot of naive questions as an incoming freshman so it’s frustrating having to see all the same questions over and over again but by this time next year I’ll try to help out the incoming freshman too lol

Okay, there are now NO spots open for Chem 6A at all. Wait lists are 3-4 people for even the worst class times. I’m going to have to wait list for 3/4 of my classes, like the OP. What do I do if I don’t get in off the wait lists? :S I’ll have one class.

That sounds terrible… I’m sure something can be done in the event that you don’t get those classes that would not leave you with only one class this quarter though lol Imagine how this is for those that got scheduled for enrollment a few days after us though… How are they going to get any of their classes? Do they open up spots as the days go or is this basically it for them?

well they have opened some spots up in the classes.
like chem6a went from 30 to 40 spots earlier today.
doc 1 (for tmc kids) opened to 12 spots from 10.
