Waitlsited applicant using USC honors as bait

I just found out today that I have been selected for the W. V. T. Rusch Undergraduate Engineering honors program. Should I tell Cornell engineering this, hoping it might boost my stock.

I also found out last Saturday that I will be competing at the National FFA convention in Farm Business Management next October. Since Cornell has a collegiate FFA chapter, will this help also (I did tell them this)? I expressed a desire to represent Cornell there.

bumpbumpbump

bump again

It would be fine to update the admissions office on the FFA thing. USC, however, is not on the level of Cornell, so it's not a particularly amazing bargaining chip.

would john hopkins be a good "bargaining chip" ... would mentioning that im goin there but that cornell is #1 help me?

Why would you go to Cornell U instead of Johns Hopkins U?

For a number of reasons which have been repeated so many times on this board that I'm not gonna bother myself.

I don't know if these things help at all in the waitlist... I mean, some schools just randomly pick, I hear.

the real question is , why wouldnt I? its not as cutthroat at cornell, much better campus, much better parties/frats, more social etc

USC has nothing on Cornell...won't help you to use it as "bait"..not in the same league. If you got into Duke or Brown, then yes, that may be possible...USC is not even in the same ballpark..dumb question

there's no dumb questions, just very very insensitive answers

i don't think USC gives you much leverage in dealing with cornell, have you been awarded or moved on to the later rounds of any scholarships? i think something like that is much more beneficial to tell them about

what about johns hopkins? ...

How about saying I got into CMU and Berkeley engineering. Would that help me get off the waitlist if I told them that Cornell is still my first choice.

yeah, would using berkeley biology major work as a bait?

i'd say yes to all three

but you'll need something more substantial than that

amherst's acceptance rate for the waitlist is 4 percent, and i can't imagine that cornell's is that much higher

so make yourselves stand out

Actually they admitted 200 people from a waitlist of 1100 last year.

Maybe it's just me, but using your USC honors as bait sounds like a threat to me. (If you don't pick me, I will just go here.) Why not just send them a letter highlighting your commitment to Cornell and your accomplishments. Also include ways that you feel you will use the university to better you education and add contribute to the university as a whole as well. Oh well, Gl.
