waiving out of state tuition

does michigan have a way to waive out of state tuition? i know some universities will waive it if you have a high enough class rank, sat score, etc. im from out of state and paying extra money to go to an out of state state school doesnt seem logical to me if i can just go to UT here.

michigan doesn't grant scholarships unless you are an absolutely outstanding candidate (i.e. 3.9+ GPA, 34+ ACT/1500 or 2200+ SAT). Texas is still a great school.

Here are my general stats; do i have a chance at getting out of state waived?

2140 SAT (760 math, 660 cr)
33 ACT
class rank 5 out of 520ish (over 102 GPA)

Senior class vice president
National Honor Society President (we have well over 100 members, i get dozens of service hours through this)
Grable's Grasshoppers (environmental service group, will have well over 100 hours of service in this before the year is over too)

My friend, who went onto the USAMO and is also 11/529 class rank, was invited to visit UMich all expenses paid. Do you think that he will have his tuition waved? I was amazed that UMich paid for his flight and hotel and everything, especially that he can afford it.

Moose, UM has a really good recruitment program for people who are good at math so it's not terribly surprising. Of the USAMO qualifiers who applied here (who I know about at least), almost all of them got full rides or close to it so expect that for your friend unless his app has something seriously wrong in it.

bump my post

How does UM look at a measly 32 act and 3.8 gpa in scholarships?

And do essays count?

How is a 32 ACT measly?

Compared to these folks its pretty crappy. Someone was saying you need like a 34 to get scholarships from U of M!

Can essays get scholarships?
