My son’s interview is the first week in August. What do you recommend he wears? He is not headed into business. More the sciences and math. Thanks!
Business attire if at the school. Consider business casual if meeting an alum at local Starbucks for a more casual interview.
Unless Wake Forest is more formal than other colleges in our experience boys wore business casual (khakis and button down or polo) even at interviews on campus. He should be comfortable. It will be hot in August.
D interviewed there. The male applicants we saw wore khakis and button downs.
I would think business attire would be over the top.
when my D interviewed on campus awhile ago, boys generally wore khakis and open collar shirt. But I also saw a few in clean jeans and a nice long-sleeved shirt.
So yeah, business attire would be too much and definitely not expected.
Let’s not put too fine of a point on it. He will look like a dork if he shows up in a “full” business suit with tie.
Khakis, nice belt and shoes, and a button down shirt is the perfect choice for something like this, because it can look polished and serious, but it’s not uber-dressy.
For a Starbucks interview, he can wear the same thing, or perhaps substitute a polo shirt.
Please check Wake’s Admissions website regarding interviews and their FAQ section. Everyone is spot on about the young men wearing khakis and a nice shirt (when my D interviewed that is all we saw). Also a quick note: Wake only does on campus or Skype interviews. Wake does not do alumni Starbuck interviews, so you have to sign up for the interview through Wake’s admission website. Good luck and GO DEACS.
My D interviewed at Wake last August. At the admission office the young men we saw waiting for their interviews were wearing khaki pants and blue blazers. Can’t recall if any had on ties.
We also saw most boys wearing khakis, button down shirt, blue blazer.
My son showed up in jeans and a t-shirt. Mind you, he had no idea that the interview was so important. Everyone else was in khakis and a blazer. One was in a full suit. In August. It was all a little over the top, IMO. Even some of the parents were all decked out. They want to know the person, not that you can shop at Brooks Brothers. Son was accepted.
When my son interviewed, the rest of the young men were either in suits or blazer/khakis. My son felt under dressed in khakis and a sweater.
I interviewed in a black t shirt and blue jeans and believe that my interview was the main reason for my admission. It’s probably safer to go business casual as others have said, but don’t spend too much time worrying about this because they honestly don’t care.
