I did not know of Wake Forest's new test-optional policy which is the reason why I did not even consider it at first. Then one week before application deadlines I hear about it. I immediately begin my application as well as filling out an interview request. Sadly, I was emailed a few days ago that they are no longer offering interviews. I really did need an interview, in my mind, because I am applying as a test-optional student. They say it is not required, but I think these are one of those things that mean "we say you don't need it but we won't even consider you if you choose not to". I am a Hispanic male, Arizona resident, and valedictorian. I will go into more detail about my extracurriculars if asked, but I'm not asking for a chance. All I want to know is if anyone thinks if not being able to have an interview will knock me out. I wish I could have been able to get one, but I did not even contemplate about wake forest till days before the deadline. Now I am long done with applying, but fearful that my top choice of university will look down on me for not having an interview.

I am under the impression that Wake Forest definitely prefers an interview, but since you didn’t have a chance to have an interview I would write a note to your admissions counselor explaining the situation. After all, you can’t have an interview if there was no chance to have an interview. Your grades must be great so I think you still have a chance.

Hi, @matthew1782 -

I completely agree with burry here - while the interview definitely helps and Wake does look favorably upon applicants who have completely successful interviews, if there are simply no spots left, then that is that! There are students who have gotten in without doing interviews at all.

Best of luck with everything! Let us know how it turns out! Try not to worry about it too much.

Don’t worry much! I don’t think the school will automatically eliminate you just because you didn’t have an interview! If your EC GPA Essays are impressive enough, you shouldn’t worry too much! I agree that you should write a note and explain why you didn’t have an interview.

Good luck!
