Wake Forest Interview

Hey guys,

I’m interviewing with Wake on campus in about a week and am very concerned. Although I have plenty of things to talk about in the interview, I have a tendency to come across as conserved and shy. I know Wake puts a lot of emphasis on the interview and I’m concerned that instead of helping my application, my interview might actually hurt it. The rest of my application is solid with a good GPA, hard classes, above average test scores for wake, and a lot of community service. So my question is, how much weight does the actual interview carry when they make a decision? If I do poorly on the interview, will that work against me when I apply ED this summer?

Thanks!

P.S. if anyone has done an interview at Wake could you please speak a little bit to your experience?

I am also signed up for an interview in the coming week and have heard generally mixed reviews. I emailed an admissions board member and they do place a very strong emphasis on the interview. I have gone through these t 3 other schools, and so far none have head the same weight in the admissions process as that of Wake. From my research and badgering of students/faculty, they are going to ask some tough questions. Wake prides itself on out of the box thinking and different style of applicant. I know many curve ball hypotheticals are asked such as “if you could be a song/character/fruit/kitchen utensil/other what would you be?” and the like. What’s more, the interviewers are noted to ask about quotes from your favorite book, plays, and songs. Enter the interview with a tentative list of these that would be easy to explain your feelings towards. I would also go in VERY informed about Wake. It seems like a basic step in this, but I feel that it really helps overcome shyness and the deer-in-headlights look some students get when they are asked basic major/minor/campus vibe stuff. The best thing you can really do is work to make a good personal impression first, and let the questions fall where they may.
Hope this helps and best of luck to you. Hopefully we are both successful in our acceptances!

Thanks, I’ll let you know how it goes.

i interviewed about a month ago and my interview was very catered to my overall interests and kinda molded to the way I wanted the interview to go. The questions I got that I can remember were:
What would you change about your school?
If you could travel anywhere in the Spanish speaking world where?
Favorite Books?

What you wanted to be when you are older?
(I said lawyer so I got this next one) What is your favorite amendment?
If you were president what would be your biggest concerns?
(I said environment) How would you help the environment at this time?
Why Wake?
