I have decent stats and good EC’s that I am passionate about, but I’m not great at interviews. I’ve spent my whole life over coming a social anxiety disorder. Should I bring it up in the interview or simply hope my delivery of information is over looked as nerves? And yes, I’m nervous about this interview… it’s my absolute dream school.
I would just do your best and not make any excuses. Try to focus your interview on reasons why Wake would want to have you as a student there, why the college is a good fit for you etc.
Unsolicited advice: I’d recommend that you give up the idea of a dream school and work to create a solid college list that includes reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (find out your parents’ budget and run the net price calculator for each school) and that you would be excited to attend. The people I see who get hurt by the college admission process are the ones who focus on one or two schools and then don’t get in.
^ totally this.
@Isee2020 my D was also nervous about college interviews, and Wake was her first of many (10) In general admissions officers are very good at making you comfortable. It’s more of a conversation less interview. Be ready to talk about your EC’s, family, hometown, etc. my daughter brought a printed “resume” to her interview with all her EC’s, service, and interests listed so she had something to reference if needed and she gave it to the interviewer at the end for her file. Also have 3-4 questions to ask the interviewer, for example if they are a Wake alum, ask why they choose Wake, what are their favorite Wake traditions… if you can have someone practice interview with you. The more you practice the more comfortable and confident you will be. Good luck!
