Wake forest or bucknell

This is the combination of two posts I put in the Wake/Bucknell threads. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
I have been reading these forums over the last few months and they have really been useful. However, I need some help. My two choices at this point are Wake Forest or Bucknell, and I only have a week left to decide. Bucknell gave me enough FA so that it would be approx. 10,000 a year to go there. Wake Forest tells me monday how much I will recieve. I did an overnight stay at Bucknell and loved it, and I visited Wake in the summer. Both campuses were very nice. I have heard that both schools are also very similar, which only makes my decision harder. I think the main questions I have are this: I am undecided, and my possible interests are computer science, business/management, and engineering. Which school would be better considering I don't know what to major in? How do my above majors compare as far as which school has the better programs for them? Also, as far as the whole "Work Forest" thing goes, would the workload at Wake be significantly harder? I am by no means lazy, but the idea of doing work for its own sake seems silly to me. How do the two schools study abroad programs compare? Finally, how "southern" is Wake Forest? If anyone could help with out with some of these questions, or point me to someone who can, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, any other information comparing the two colleges would be a great help as well.

Bucknell gave me a very similar financial aid package with about 6,000 in loans. However, Bucknell does not include the cost of books, student costs, transportation costs, and they also would charge me 1,800 as a parental contribution. The following from Wake includes all of the above but they do not charge my parents.

WFU Sch to Cap Borrowing $6,000.00
Wake Forest College Sch $32,600.00
Federal Pell Grant $5,550.00
Federal SEOG (grant) $1,500.00
Federal Work-Study Employment $2,000.00
Federal Perkins Loan $4,000.00
Fed Direct Sub Stafford Loan $2,510.00

Total award:
$54,160.00

So in summary, Wake's financial aid package is better than Bucknell's by a few thousand. However, one question I have is this: does an outside scolarship reduce my "WFU Sch to Cap Borrowing" first or my workstudy/ loans?
I really like Wake for its better weather and southern feel, as well as the FA. However, I believe that Bucknell is better academically for being undecided... help!

First off, congratulations. Many people would love to have the problem of deciding between Bucknell or Wake Forest. Both schools are outstanding. However, you mentioned that Engineering is a possible major. Bucknell has a very good engineering program while Wake Forest does not have engineering as a specific major. If you believe that is is a likely major, than you should consider it. I know many people that go to both colleges and they all claim to have extensive workloads so I would not expect Bucknell to be easier than Wake. Good luck

Agreed. If engineering is your thing, then Bucknell is the choice. Both schools are fairly well to do and fairly preppy by the way.

BUT…all other things considered, Wake would be my choice for the outstanding opportunities, great alumni base, ACC sports and so forth.

I like Wake’s energy, location and overall student experience more than Bucknell’s but Bucknell would have the edge for someone pursuing engineering.

Don’t know if you care, but Wake’s involvement in the ACC and Bucknell’s in the Patriot League do a lot to define the respective student and alumni experiences for many students/graduates.

It’s a choice between Wake and Wake-North (or if you prefer, Bucknell and Bucknell-South). Wake’s a great place to be undecided, unless you think the Engineering interest is strong enough to decide things. I think you’d find the ambience on each campus to be very similar.

Of course, you’ll need to decide if you prefer Bucknell’s architecture:

. . . or Wake’s:

:)

thanks for the input! I am leaning towards wake right now. I really like the southern location and feel of wake, and engineering is not a very big deal to me. Plus, there study abroad programs are great. anyone know someone in the Calloway business school? is it really difficult?

Hi- I know this is an old thread
But where did you end up???
These are my too choices and I am so panicked

My son had the same choice to make 4 years ago and decided on Bucknell. His reasoning had little to do with location as we are only 2 hours from Wake and 6 from Bucknell. The size of the student body (Bucknell being smaller), classes all tought by professors, how he was welcomed during his visits, all contributed to his choice.
I have to say that we first visited Bucknell on a cold January day while the snow was falling and it didn’t deter him in the least. Four years later he has one semester to go and has never regretted his decision. He absolutely loves Bucknell and the professors he now calls his friends.
I don’t believe you can go wrong at either school. Make a choice and don’t look back. Enjoy.

Hello,
Peaches, I decided on Wake and currently am about to go back for second semester. I LOVE it there, and cannot wait to be back. If you have any questions either email me at coluzl0@wfu.edu or post on this thread.
