I really can't decide between these two schools primarily because I don't know the positives about both. So I would really love any advice or information about either schools. I do plan to follow the pre-med track for Undergraduate.

If money is not a concern, choose Wake. Wake has so much more to offer, imo.

On the surface, there are some similarities in size and academic reputation. But unless you’ve got a far better financial package at CWRU, I’d think Wake would win most comparisons. It’s more selective, in a nicer setting (IMO), its campus life is probably more vibrant than Case, probably has a better balance of social and intellectual life, it has greater name recognition (thanks largely to big-time athletics), far better weather, etc. If you were going into engineering, then you’d have a reason to chose Case - but in that case, you wouldn’t have even considered Wake. For pre-med, I’d think Wake would be a clear choice.

They are very different schools. I got some literature from CWRU, but it is in Cleveland and Cleveland is cold. Furthermore, it is an engineering school and I have no interest in that. Wake Forest is the superior school, particuarly for pre-med.

Just a little different view. My son and his girlfriend are both premed at Case. The school is very tough. Getting a 4.0 is nearly impossible so from a premed standpoint that is a disadvantage. Class sizes for some required science courses can be large even though average class size is small. It is also very cold and snowy in Cleveland so you need to take that into consideration. There are some great research opportunities at the University or its hospital however. I would ignore statistics on selectiveness of Case. Most students don’t apply to Case unless they are interested in going there so it’s somewhat self selected.

I personally feel that Cleveland as a city has much more to offer than Winston-Salem (we visited there for my daughter who will be a freshman next year). There is major sports (although not necessarily with winning teams) and generally a lot to do. Case also includes the symphony hall and has a terrific music school if you have any inclination in that direction. The school is on a major transportation system and students have free transit anywhere the system goes. Most students at Case have 2 or 3 majors. My son is actually getting a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and a BA in History. Hope this helps a bit.

I mean, you’re not going to get a 4.0 at Wake either (something like maybe two kids a year, out of the entire student body, manage it), so that’s not a reason to choose Wake over Case. Medical schools know, however, that Wake is a tough school, and I don’t think it hurts the medical school acceptance rates at all. I was very happy with the pre-med program at Wake Forest.

Choose Wake, it has a cooler name.

Case Western Reserve sounds like a boxed wine.
