Wake Forest RD 2022

Still no word in Oregon today. Lame.

@byeretirement That is great! Yes the sizes of the schools are very different. You can always make a big school smaller and meet new people everyday or hang out with same people at a bigger school.

@essaysstink123 My daughter will go on the waitlist just to keep options open. My daughter def liked the smaller fell and weather too at Wake. However, plenty things she favored at Mich like things you mentioned…I think there are trade offs at all the schools.
We are also from northern NJ so at least Mich weather at least won’t be a big adjustment.

Still nothing today. SO frustrating. Seeing these results makes me think that D will be waitlisted. And, we are leaving this weekend for Spring Break and really wanted to get know before we left.

waitlisted

GPA: 3.83 W and around 3.74 UW
SAT: 1430 / 690 (reading/writing)+ 740 (math)

Act 35… Unw avg 91. 11 aps. Out of school half of jr year for illness… son wait-listed from New Jersey. We have never visited Wake Forest. As we will only have 24 hours to decide once they contact us in May or June. Does it make sense to visit in April. Will they allow us to visit in April on admitted students days

Accepted

4.3GPA; 1400 SAT
Club President
Three-sport athlete
14 APs
Did not interview
Felt really good about essays

Accepted: University of Florida, Sewanee: University of The South, Wake Forest

Rejected: Vanderbilt, Columbia, Notre Dame, Northwestern

Waitlisted: Georgia Tech

To be honest, reading through some of the stats of y’all who were rejected or waitlisted I’m shocked. I have a feeling a lot of it came down to essays and supplemental questions, maybe a little luck of the draw lol. For those of you who didn’t get in with great ECs and lots of APs I’m sure you’ll find a place at one of a lot of other great schools. I was flat out rejected by several schools I always imagined myself at, but now after visiting Wake I know that it all worked it’s way out.

@wakey1

If you want to check out the campus and perhaps sit in on a class I would recommend what we did at UNC. There were no tours available so I called the academic department that my son was interested in and talked to the Director of Undergraduate Studies and arranged for us to sit in on a class. It also gave us an opportunity to talk to several members of the staff. Some departments might arrange to do a personal tour. We attended Discovery Day at Wake but I have to imagine you could arrange something. Most departments are open if your child is truly interested.

Although we didn’t sit in on a class (1 yr ago), I did arrange for a one -on - one meeting for my son with a leader of the student services dept within the business school. I contacted the Assistant Dean (very friendly and accommodating) and let him know S wanted to get a closer look at the business school (learn about resources, program, etc.). We did the tour / info session and then he met with a great lady at the business school for over an hour. He actually referenced that in his “Why Wake” response. Ask and they will work with you (if possible).

Waitlisted with 4.0 UW, 34 ACT, research internships, etc and a pretty good interview.
Already accepted at ND, Boston College, and Emory, so I guess I’m a little disappointed with the decision but I don’t know what more I could’ve done for my application

I want to add my Congratulations to all of those who were admitted. Welcome to The Forest! To those who are wait-listed, I would suggest that you reach out to your Regional Admissions Counselor and reiterate your continued interest in attending, if possible. The list of counselors can be found here: https://admissions.wfu.edu/contact-us/.

For those who did not receive admission, please read @UNHAlumns’ posts earlier in this thread. They are far more eloquent and on point than anything I could post. After watching this admissions process for several years now, I do believe that a number of you were caught in the “yield” calculation. Your stats and qualifications put you in the category of students who may not attend if offered and therefore your were not offered admission. It’s the ugly underbelly of college admissions and a practice that I wish didn’t exist. ED and EA are becoming far more important in the Admissions process as those are students who are committed to attending and therefore boost the yield number. RD is becoming less important in terms of the number of students admitted. I also believe that the interview process, the essays, and implied interest carry far more weight than in previous years. The pool of candidates is so much stronger from the standpoint of GPA and test scores today. Therefore, the only way to distinguish between the applications is to rely on the intangibles discerned from the subjective part of the process. I am certain that all of you will find a home. A place where you can flourish, succeed, and achieve your dreams. I wish you all the best of luck!

For those who still have not received a decision and for those who will be traveling next week, you should call the Admissions Office next week and ask for your decision verbally. Keep in mind that the decision will be given only to the student applicant, not a parent. Good luck to all of you!

D wait listed…she almost applied ED but chose another school to do that at. She probably would have been admitted had she taken the ED route at Wake. In any case she was not sad as she got accepted at 6 other schools and learned though visiting them that she actually prefers the larger size schools she was accepted in. Additionally she was a direct admit into the business schools as a freshman so no having to apply after sophomore year. This is a crazy process with ups and downs (she had 3 rejections…all at schools with lesser credentials and acceptance rates than Wake). All these kids have excellent credentials and should be proud of themselves (and we should be proud of them too). Compared to when we were in the same boat (so 30 years ago for me) it is much more competitive now and if I had the same stats as my daughter I would have gone to an Ivy. Congrats to those that got in and for those that did not congrats for your achievements to get here; it will all end up well no matter where you go.

So in the mail today I got an invitation inviting me to the overnight diversity weekend. On the back, it says “Congrats on your acceptance.” I have not received a big envelope or a small white envelope in the mail yet. Is the invitation confirmation that I got into Wake?

Yes! Ur letters are crossed in the mail

Well I called that one! D waitlisted. 32 ACT (sent), 3.9 GPA, 8 AP classes, rest honors. Interviewed and visited. Two sports, lots of leadership, great recs, spent tons of time on her essays (strong writer), weekly volunteering to same organization, helped establish a program at school.

Accepted at Boston University, Notre Dame, Washington and Lee (and others but I considered these similar reach to Wake). It was her first choice, but she is ok.

Best wishes to everyone and congrats to those who got in.

Waitlisted with no interview nor visit, 29 act and 1350 sat both sent, 3.3 uw 3.8 w, good short answers, very surprised that i was even put on the waitlist

Has anyone been notified of a Presidential Scholarship award yet this year? I think if you got it, you should find out by “end of March” according to the Wake website, but I’ve seen in past years where students have found out in early to mid April. Thanks!

@adjaclaw wow she still has great options. Which one is she leaning to?

@AtlKid I just same postcard. Mosaic event. I’m coming on 12th.let me know if and when u r coming

Has anyone else on the west coast still not received their admit status in the mail?
