Wake Forest RD Class of 2023

I was deferred from ED1 and didn’t receive the email invitation for a campus visit. Does this mean I am likely not going to receive an acceptance letter later in the month? It definitely seems like the email was sent with the intent to inform students that will be accepted RD. Sucks that it looks like I won’t be getting the news I wanted

@MAhouse it looks like the email was a mistake that they retracted so I wouldn’t take it as a bad sign. I know the waiting is brutal, hang tough

@lbf I hope it just was a mistake but the fact that other deferred ED1 applicants got the emails and I didn’t worries me a lot. Im expecting a small letter at this point.

I completely disagree with the characterization of the acceptance notification as “disastrous” and “disorganized”. Wake is very transparent as to when applicants will be notified, “by mail, by April 1”. They go the extra step of posting on both their official Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts exactly when the notifications are loaded into the truck and sent to the Post Office. What happens after that is completely out of their control.

As to why they use snail mail vs electronic notification, one only has to look back to last week to see how easy it is for a mistake to be made with electronic communications. There are numerous stories, going back several years, of applicants at other schools (Columbia, MIT, Tulane, Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins etc.) receiving an incorrect notification or acceptance.

To my knowledge, and that’s 50+ years of history with Wake Forest, no one has ever received a letter saying they were accepted, when in fact they were not.

The wait is almost over. Good luck to everyone!

Go Deacs!

For people who were deferred ED1 and did receive the email, what day and what was the title of the email? Was it under spam? I would appreciate details on the email

I got it on February 28th in my main inbox, and it was from the general admissions email. I got the retraction email the same day a few hours later.

I read over my common app writing prompts for Wake Forest and now I am freaking out. I feel like I was too serious and did not add anything funny in the prompts. I know it is too late, but I wish I could do something to make them realize I am not all serious. I talked about what I was passionate about. I don’t know what to do… so stressed

@collegecuriosty like you said there is nothing you can do now so don’t stress out, I. know it seems cliche to say but somehow it will all work itself out and you will end up where you are meant to be and I hope it is WFU if that is what you want. Take a deep breath and have faith that it will all work out.

@collegecuriosty don’t double guess yourself! You were honest answering those questions as “you”. You don’t want to be accepted into a school as “somebody else”, but your wonderful “you”. If it is not meant to be, your wonderful “you” will do GREAT at another school. Sometimes what we want may be not what we actually need. You will make the best of any opportunity either at Wake or anywhere else!

@CollegeCuriosity Don’t worry. My d wasn’t funny in her essay answers and she got in. I don’t think that’s a requirement.

Any ideas on when the decisions will be out?

Best guess is that they’ll be mailed out the 22nd?

They will send a message out on twitter once they are in the mail, 22nd is a good guess but it could be anytime before April 1st… Good Luck!

Has anyone seen this article? Wake Forest is one of the schools involved. https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/12/us/college-admission-cheating-scheme/index.html

Hoping WF puts out some kind of statement about the charges/arrests before the release of RD.

There is no allegation against the school. It is against coaches and the people who paid bribes to the “college admission counselor” company and those who took tests.
As of now, the Justice Department specifically said that the schools were not involved, it was specific coaches who took bribes and the schools did not know

Wake has put out two different statements so far with respect to the allegations.

This was released on Twitter right after the allegations were announced:

“Wake Forest is aware of the allegations regarding head volleyball coach Bill Ferguson. The university has retained outside legal counsel to look into this matter.” Randi Smart has been named as interim coach, effective immediately. We will have no further comment at this time."

They have since followed up with a letter to students, staff, faculty, parents and alumni. Here is the full letter:

"Dear Wake Forest students, faculty and staff,

As has been widely reported, the Department of Justice has been conducting an extensive investigation into the influence of financial transactions and other activities to gain admission into top universities.
An indictment filed in a federal court in Boston accused one Wake Forest employee, volleyball coach Bill Ferguson, of accepting a payment to influence the admission of a prospective student who had been placed on the wait-list. The broader criminal investigation also alleges widespread cheating on admissions exams; however, these allegations do not pertain to Wake Forest.

The indictment does not allege misconduct by the University or any other employees. Wake Forest placed Ferguson on administrative leave this morning and named Randi Smart interim coach, effective immediately.
The alleged conduct is in direct conflict with the values and integrity of Wake Forest and its athletics program. The University’s outside counsel is conducting an internal review, and Wake Forest has and will continue to cooperate fully with federal authorities as the legal process unfolds. Sincerely, Nathan O. Hatch, President".

As has been mentioned, there are no allegations against the University. Only against a current employee who is now on leave and will be fired as soon as the investigation is complete.

There is a very long thread currently on College Confidential under the Admissions tab if you would like more information. Here’s the link:

I totally forgot decisions are mailed. So they announce the day they are mailed, is that how it works? I guess I’m lucky I live in NC so it shouldn’t take too long, but also if they mail on a Friday it will definitely take a few days.

Anyone else stunned by the sentence in the letter by WFU, “Only against a current employee who is now on leave and will be fired as soon as the investigation is complete.” Nothing like passing judgement, before seeing the results of the investigation. I get it, the guy is likely guilty of enough to warrant being fired, but documenting the fact that they are going to fire him is a little odd. Why bother to do an “investigation” at all?

Son is still waiting on final decision from WFU. Like so many others on this thread, we are looking forward to hearing from the admissions office soon. WFU is one of the last remaining schools we have still not heard from yet. Son has some good options right now, but WFU was at the top of his list when the entire process began. Given the way other schools have communicated and let my son know how much they want and value him as a student (and WFU has not), WFU has dropped down his list over the course of this whole process. Good luck to all who are still waiting!
