@ctmom2boys has been banned for some reason so you won’t be hearing from him/her
Banned, what’s going on? Quick q: for anyone going down to Wake from NYC for accepted student day on April 12, when are you going down/heading back? We’re heading down Thursday 8:30pm out of LaGuardia, landing in Greensboro 10:25; heading back 1:06pm Sunday. Also what hotel are you staying in. Would love to meet up with some of you guys.
Banned? Is it like Facebook jail?
@abfranklin my daughter said if your son goes on Instagram to WFUclass23 and follows them he can DM his phone number to join the group me.
There are 2 names that are very similar: Ctmom2boys and Ctmomof2boys. The 2nd one is the Wake applicant mom and if you look, she is not banned. The other is. I hope she gets a chuckle out of this! By the way, my son graduated from Wake in 2015, but I still like to follow the admission discussion at the end of March. Some of us stick around for quite awhile!
@Ctmomof2boys oops sorry about that…
Thinking of you hoping you will have answers soon!!
Awesome to have you here tennismom. Give us the good scoop, restaurants, hotels, etc… we
@tennismom for us out of towners (we are in NJ) if daughter chooses Wake (it’s first but she hasn’t committed and wants to revisit before deciding) is there someplace near the school to get dorm things if they don’t fit in our car?
Wow, I was away from this thread for half a day and I come back to the news @Ctmomof2boys has a naughty twin. This is the most fun board! @Jm6844 , we’re going down earlier on 4/11 and are staying at the Residence Inn. My son will stay in the dorms Friday night with a friend (oh, Lord). We’re going to hit the men’s soccer game on Saturday at noon. Then we’re flying out of Charlotte Saturday night. I am absolutely on board for any type of get-together. I’m thinking we should take this offline for those interested. Maybe do it old school on e-mail?
Scratch that e-mail idea. There’s a new-fangled technology on here: DMing. Looks like we can DM a group, as long as each person has enough posts to be allowed to DM. Not sure how many posts that is. But if anyone who wants to get together 4/12 or 4/13 at Wake posts their interest, I will work on a plan (with @jm6844 – surprise!).
Great Westchester. We may go to the tennis match Friday at 6pm as my s is a tennis player
Congratulations to all of you and your children. Wake was a great experience for my son. He made the most of his time there. His experiences there and the Wake name has carried him very far post grad.
We always stayed at Courtyard Marriott on University. It is the closest hotel to campus. You must book early for high volume days as it books up. There isa Residents Inn down University on the other side of campus a little further away. It is closer to Target where everyone seems to go for dorm stuff either for things forgotten on move in day or to buy all because can not bring in car.
Some restaurants we enjoyed: Some downtown ( we liked going downtown) or closer to campus. Mozelles, 4 th Street Filling Station, Mellow Mushroom,Sweet Potatoes, Milners and of course Village Tavern in Reynolda Village (connected to campus). There are also a couple of sandwich places in Reynolda Village that are good but busy on high volume campus days.
I remember Accepted Student Day well with fond memories. We even met my son’s interviewer at his house for lunch one of the days. They remain close to this day via email.
Have fun! Hope this helps.
Sorry- Residence Inn. (Auto correct )
@tennismom I like you am not a parent of a current new admit but I have a son at Wake who is a sophomore now. I like to look on here and see everyones excitement about Wake and answer any questions I can.
Here is my feedback on some of the questions asked I’m sure @tennismom has her favorites.
@2Kidz2college there are all of the normal stores you think of in WS, a couple of Targets a Bed Bath and Beyond. We live across the country so did a lot of shipping to campus and we did the BBB pack and hold where your order what you want and pick it up at the local store which was very helpful.
@Jm6844 my favorite hotel is the Kimpton Cardinal (downtown) but not always easy to get into, I have also stayed at the Marriott(downtown) and the courtyard Marriott which is really close to campus. As far as restaurants there is a lot of good ones in my opinion.
I agree with all of what @tennismom said and here are a couple more…
Bibbs BBQ
Dioli’s Deli
Cin Cin Burger Bar
The Porch Kitchen & Cantina - Mexican
Quanto Basta - Italian
Fratelli’s Italian Steakhouse - Close to Campus
Breakfast
Famous Toastery
Mary’s Gourmet Diner
First Watch - New
@lbf thanks for the info!
@Jm6844 if your S likes tennis go to the match its pretty fun to watch!
My daughter was accepted and we will be at Wake this Friday! We are from Florida. Is there an accepted students group chat she could join so she could see who else might be up there this week and talk to some other class of 2023 deacons
Same issue for my daughter. Any details?
Thanks for the info lbf - great stuff. Yeah I think we’ll go to the tennis match. Both my sons play varsity tennis in high school
I think there’s a accepted student Facebook page mentioned a few pages back on this thread
