@Jm6844 welcome to the Forest!!
@collegemomjam From what I have heard Greek is a big deal especially for girls, but there are other options for a good social life. I think it’s important to join something, If you don’t join a Greek org it helps to be on a team or in a religious organization or a service organization or a business fraterninty for example.
@Jm6844 congrats to your son!!
@citymama9 100% on the joining something (s). There are two components to these groups, the activity itself and a social component. A lot of them have their own mixers and parties and events outside of the actual group meetings / activities. Most of them, regardless of theme, do service. Wake is huge on service and giving back. Not just the large event fundraisers (Hit the bricks and Wake n Shake) but actual work in the community. Freshmen yr S’s business frat did a bunch of landscaping at local elementary schools.
Your kid will find the more they get involved with a club, the bigger the circle of friends as each yr there are new members.
Traditional Greek life is certainly a major component at Wake Forest. But not joining does not hinder your social life or fun. Just a different subset of friends / activities. That doesn’t mean you won’t be friends with Greeks because you will.
We spend some quiet (non rainy) time at Wake today before heading back to NYC. The crepe breakfast place in Reynalda Village was excellent - great crepes and even better latte’s. Driving away from campus after there was a cute town about 2 miles away with some restaurants/culture.
Back on campus, we traveled all over campus and there’s not an ugly inch present. Saw the Arnold Palmer golf performance area, all the dorms and sports facilities and everything is quite bucolic. Our kids are very lucky and I’m a bit jealous!!! All of us in the NYC/NJ/Westchester/CT area should get together at some point. I read somewhere a while ago that parents of Wake students set up meet and greets with new Wake parents, so we should look out for that.
@Jm6844 There will usually be (at least there was 2 yrs ago and I’m sure they still do it) an admitted students reception in your area (region of the country) over the summer.
We attended this with our S and it was great. It was hosted by an alum and the attendees were admitted students / parents, a WFU alumni / biz development type (employee of Wake), and a handful of current students. Format was basic meet and greet (appetizers and soda / water), then some comments by the Wake staff, then anbout 30 minute panel Q&A with the current students. It was a nice event. The panel answered questions re classes, dorm life, clubs, study abroad, greek life, etc. You will likely be contacted or receive an invitation closer to the summer.
Thanks Rickle1 that would be great
My son committed right after attending the accepted students day on Friday. We had planned to travel to Emory this weekend so he could do a final comparison of the two schools but after Friday he asked us to cancel the trip to Emory. He was sold. I’m thrilled to be a Wake mom!
@abfranklin Welcome!!
Congratulations, @abfranklin!
@abfranklin Welcome to the Forest!
Congrats @abfranklin - Great choice - Emory is a great school but I think Wake a little better. Emory doesn’t have the sports thing going.
Hey everyone, did you all receive your financial aid information from WFU? I am still waiting for mine but I’m getting nervous as the deadline to make the deposit, May 1st, is approaching. Thanks for the help!
Weeks ago - you should call admissions/financial aid about this
@DF you should be able to view your financial aid status on the Wake Information Network: https://win.wfu.edu/. It will be under the Virtual Campus link of the student section.
Thanks for the help!
Son just committed to Wake! Super excited for him. And glad that the application process is over!
Welcome to The Forest. Go Deacs!
I am so happy to share that our son finally made his decision and will be joining the class of 2023 at Wake Forest! He’s so excited and so are we!
@efg136 Welcome to the Forest!!
