Wake Forest Supp. Essay Confusion

I am confused about whether Wake Forest has a supplemeentary essay. My direct application, the links to which WF has sent me through email, stipulates that I must write a full essay addressing the prompt "Wake Forest has rethought admissions. How has admissions made you rethink yourself?" This prompt and its corrolary answer box are located below the books-I've-read section and above the 8 short answer boxes.

However, this essay prompt is completely absent from the common application non-direct supplement. On the common app supp, there are short answers, but no essay.

Why would WF include an essay on its direct application that is not on the common app supplement? Who would voluntarily choose to complete an application which entails more work? Does anyone else share my confusion?

What my daughter did (and she received her acceptance letter yesterday), is to use the common app, check the common app essay prompt box which says “essay of your choice” or whatever, and then go ahead and let the WFU “rethink yourself” prompt be the theme of your essay.

She did this because her college advising staff, and the teachers doing her recommendations, were rather insistent on using the common app. And everything worked out fine :)

Good luck.

stiglitz5000- have to agree with you , my daughter will apply with Common App , these supplemental essays are completely out of control!!

I applied (and was accepted) using the Wake Forest App, but I believe the essay is just to give you a prompt to write about and is not a required topic when using CommonApp. It is similar to how CA gives you ideas about what to write. The more important part is the short answers. My friend is applying to Wake via CA and is using a different topic essay.

My daughter applied ED last year (AND got in AND is loving WF!!). She used the common application and did an essay she had worked on for something else (ie not the WF prompt). Her WF supplement was the short answer questions as mentioned above. Based on what she did, I think you can pick your essay topic or use the WF one as “other” if you are using the CA. Good Luck!! PS I agree the short answer questions are probably really important - do not speed through those!

Worrisome mom waiting on that letter, or hopefully packet from WFU. What are her chances? ACT: 33 math and 29 English. 4 year varsity lettered sport requiring 11 month per annum commitment and Captain senior year. Vice-President of Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta and Key Club. 5 AP and IB classes senior year. Top 10% out of class of 550. Daughter and sister of alumni. Brother is a freshman.

My daughter had similar stats and her dad also went there. She is a freshman this year and loves it!! She didn’t apply early though so don’t know if that matters. Good luck! I think she’ll be fine!

you guys are all morons. the reason they have you do a full essay when doing their app is because you’re not doing the full essay that is on the common app. how hard was that to figure out.
