PROS & CONS. Why should I go to one over the other? I really like Wake’s engineering degree, however I also like finance and management. I was accepted to CSM. Its hard to choose between both of these schools…
Lots of similIties between these 2. Academics about the same. Both have pretty campuses. Sports about the same.
More mild weather during school year at Wake. Both have campuses in residential areas without businesses adjacent to campus.
Biggest difference is probably that when you leave BC’s campus you are quickly in a facinating & historic city with dozens of other colleges. Leaving Wake’s campus you aren’t in anything particularly interesting.
This is a tough one. Two great schools. Where would you rather live for four years? The north or the south? What one is more accessible to you from where you live? Do you see yourself in Boston after college? If so, BC might be the better choice. Can you tap into a gut feeling when you visited each school? Congratulations - many students would love to have this choice!
This is odd timing to ask this question. We’re you planning on going to one of these schools and then got off the waitlist at the other? BC is Jesuit. Wake is not. Does that make a difference to you? 70 percent of the kids at BC are Catholic.
So many similarities! These were S’ top 2 a few yrs ago. He would have chosen BC because he wants to live in Boston long term (personal reasons, family ties, etc) but ended up at Wake. He loves it and after 2 yrs (really right away) couldn’t imagine being anywhere else (I think this is fairly common once they settle at a good fit school). Both have outstanding academics, B schools, school spirit, sports, beautiful campuses, sense of belonging / community, pride, and outcomes.
Location will likely have a lot to do with your choice. The Boston area is fantastic on lots of levels. The primary job market from NYC to Boston is very accessible. That said, lots of Wake kids from the NE (S’ last two roommates were both from Boston) and tons of Wake kids end up in NYC for finance / banking, etc. Personally, I would give the location edge to BC. However, Wake is a few minutes from downtown Winston Salem which is a cool , funky , artsy city and 90 minutes from Charlotte which is a major corporate city. Places really well in Charlotte, Atlanta, DC, NYC and others.
Think about weather (so awesome in the Carolinas) and where you see yourself in 10 yrs. You can get anywhere from either but it will be easier to land a great first job in the Boston area from BC (and in the south from Wake). For S’ taste, if you could put Wake on wheels and take it to Chestnut Hill it would be heaven!
The Boston area is so expensive to live in these days…going to college there might be some people’s only opportunity to live there.
