Wake Forest vs. UVA

Some one please help me choose time is running out!!!

Which do you like better, football or basketball?

lawl barrons

UVA has more prestige. Both schools are a lot of fun. You can't really go wrong but id pick UVA.

If I were choosing between the two, I would go with UVA.

Wake's really a liberal arts college with grad, law and med schools connected. Decide if you want the big university experience or the intimate LAC experience.

I would pick UVA over Wake Forest anyday.

Definitely Uva

wake forest

If you are in-state UVA, go there no question. If you are out-of-state, I would still go there unless you like Winston-Salem more (which I can't really see anybody preferring over Charlottesville, but YMMV).

It depends on if you are looking at UVA from an in state or an out of state perspective. The prestige coming from UVA is because of their graduate schools and how difficult it is to get in from out of state. Neither of those factors have a bearing on what type of education you will receive. In fact, it points to the fact that you will probably have grad assistants teaching courses and the discrepancy in the ability of students in the classroom. (out of state vs. in state students)

I would say you need to look at the experience of both rather than the "prestige" because prestige only lasts so long when you are looking at your four years. Both are going to offer you different things so you need to make sure you look at what is the best for you. (That and the fact that you shouldn't take the word of any of us on a message board but go with what YOU feel is the best)

I think you need to look at both schools very carefully. I don't think you should "definitely" choose UVa. The prestige is definitely not the most important factor. Personally, I turned down Duke, UNC (another school I see you've looked at), and several other excellent schools for Wake Forest. If you really can't decide, I suggest you compare programs. UVa has a wonderful English department, but its biology program isn't quite as good, for example. Wake gives a very LAC-like impression that you may or may not like. The professors are friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and willing to work with their students. I don't know if you'd find that at a large public university. Wake is definitely an up and coming college and will garner a lot more respect in the future, IMO. In just one year its average SAT score has jumped from a 1315 to a 1381.

By the way, Chapel Hill easily trumps Charlottesville as a college town. :)

I'd pick UVA...is cheap and it looks like is more diverse

I know someone who transferred out of Wake Forest because she claimed that the environment wasn't very diverse and she felt she had been under the influence of false advertisement. Granted, because she's leaving she had a negative viewpoint, but it's something to consider.

That's silly (no offense, snuffles). Wake's never claimed to be diverse, and a visit to the campus would have made this obvious. I thought the campus was much more open and friendly than the more diverse UNC, for example. The school is making great strides to attract minorities (see a thread about it on the Wake board).

Something I forgot to mention earlier is that your courseload at Wake will be tougher than at UVa or UNC. Its nickname is "Work" Forest, so if you aren't willing to work hard...

Also, if you're in-state, UVa might be best. There's no point in racking up debt if you're headed for graduate school.
