wake forest?

how good is wake forest? how much prestige does it have? is it a known school to east coast families and kids too?

it is a great school. it often competes with unc and duke for students but wake isn't that big of a school. In terms of prestige, I would say wake has a decent amount of prestige, but obviously less so than let's say duke and probably on par with unc and other quality schools such as umich, tufts, nyu, vandy, etc. etc.

I'm not saying it isn't a great school but I don't think it's reputation is as good as those above. It simply isn't as well known nationally, except maybe for its sports.

I'd say Wake has more of a regional prestige. My friend's mom works there and says the school is very well known in NC and the south. A good school, but definetly not as prestigous as NYU or UMich.

Well respected in the south. On par with Vandy and Chapel Hill.

Wake is very well respected in the south and I agree with everyone who considers it on par w/ Vandy and Carolina. It's not on par with Duke. It's pretty close to Emory.

I think it's a great school, very pretty, great sports... more of a regional draw though. Very southern. I'm sure through basketball it'll begin to have an increasingly national draw (I know a lot of northern kids beginning to apply) but that will take some time.

Wake Forest is known because of it's athletics. Thus, it has prestige.
I honestly had no idea what Emory was until these boards. . .maybe because they have no football team and the teams they do have are DIII/terrible.

Wake Forest is an exceptional school. It has a heavy southern accent and is among the Top Four of NC schools, Duke, UNC and Davidson being the others. There's a lively campus atmosphere and a great deal of school spirit, especially during basketball season (like now with March Madness). Its prestige is growing annually beyond the south and gaining in the Northeast and Midwest. As far as being comparable to Emory, they are two entirely different schools in terms of student body makeup, school spirit and alumni/ae pride. There is a very large contingency of students at Emory from the New York metropolitan area, notably Long Island and northern New Jersey; Wake Forest draws a great deal of its students from the Midwest and Northeast. Its definitely considered among the better of the Southern Ivies.

In terms of prestige, Vandy > Wake.

yeah I would agree Wake is a good school but not on par with Duke or even Emory or Vandy. You will still get a great education and it does have a good amount of respect in the south

Wake is a new player-until 15 years ago very regional appeal. Duke and Davidson are academically far above WAKE.
