Does anyone know anything about Wake Forest?

I live in Wake Forest, NC

i am a freshman here, do you have any questions

And I graduated in May, so I'm still fairly familiar with the school as well. And you may or may not know this (I know that a lot of people who are from out of state sometimes get confused), but Wake Forest University is in Winston-Salem, NC NOT Wake Forest, NC. We moved from the town of Wake Forest in 1954, I think.

What is the immediate area around the campus like? My daughter visited Elon and didn't like the fact that there was nothing nearby. Will Wake Forest be the same?

i have the same question as benice.....i also visited elon but did not like the surrounding area....i LOVE wake and visited there also but still have some doubts about the town around it.....help me erase those doubts lol

It really depends on what you're looking for "the surrounding area" to be like in choosing a college. Does Winston-Salem = Boston? Absolutely not. But, there are a number of artsy type stores, really good restaurants, breakfast/coffee places, etc. IMO, based on D's experience, many students are convinced they have to have lots to do in their college town, but when they actually get there, it becomes less important because there's so much going on at school. YMMV.

It also depends on what you mean by the surrounding area. There's not a whole lot within walking distance of campus, but Winston-Salem itself has a fair amount. I'm afraid that the only real way to tell how you'll feel about Wake Forest is to visit the campus.

Wake Forest planning to transform Deacon Boulevard area with development

I'll just add that there should be something close to campus in the future. Still no official plans unveiled on what will be included in the Deacon Village--but I'd hope we'll hear more about it in the next few months...

Winston-Salem is a town on the rise. Is it a Charlottesville or a Chapel Hill, no. However, the fact that Wake is so self contained. As far as I am concerned that is part of the beauty to it. There is so much to do on campus, and Winston-Salem does offer some, but you can always go to Greensboro which is only a half hour away. If you are looking for a big city or a great college town, Wake Forest is probably not for you. However, if you are like me (coming from a town of a few thousand people) then Wake Forest might be for you. I'd suggest visiting and seeing if you like the culture of the campus.

On a side note Elon was mentioned, and my brother goes there. I have visited it a few times and it reminds me of Wake Forest a lot.
