I just got off the WL today at Wake Forest. Yay for me!

Now I have a dilemma, Wake Forest or Washington and Lee (to which I have already sent a deposit). Unless WF analyzes something differently, I will not get any FA/MA to either school.

Poli Sci wannabe, Greek wannabe, I'm fairly conservative. I like the size of both schools. They each have their benefits.

I haven't seen WF since junior year but what I remember of it was really nice. What dorms do freshman get? Are they single-sex or coed by room/floor etc? Do you dress for football games etc?

I'm going to need to make a decision. I am content with my original choice but tell me all the great (and not-so-great) things about Wake.

Tartan - I am pm'ing you with some thoughts!

Political Science is a strong department at Wake.

Dorms are typically co-ed by floor, and there is a substance free dorm for first-year students--if that interests you. Most first year students live in dorms on the south side of campus.

Plenty of people dress up for the football games, but you'll see just as many in shorts and t-shirts.

I do think the school spirit at Wake is probably greater with the Division I sports teams.

They are both great schools. I liked Wake more because it was "smallish" rather than "small."

It depends, I guess, upon which one you want more.

I have 48 hours in which to decide. My dad has never seen the school.

Esquette, I never got your PM.

Can you get a single as an freshman or even as an upperclassman? I know housing is guaranteed for 2 years but my mom wants to know if people ever stay on for all 4? Do dorms have only end-of-hall bathrooms or are there suite style bathrooms (2 rooms sharing). What dorms do freshmen typically get, ie which are "south side" of campus?

tartan did you get all the forwarded ones?

You'd be required to live on campus for your first two years, but housing is actually guaranteed for all four years if you want to live there for all four years (the exception to that is if you move off campus and then want to move back on. If you ever move off campus, they can't promise that you'll be able to get back on). There are plenty of people who live on campus for all four years.

Freshman live in Luter (where there are also some upperclassmen), Babcock, Johnson, Bostwick, Collins, Palmer, and Piccolo, all of which are co-ed (usually by hall or wing). You don't get any choice about where you live. If you ask for substance-free housing, you'll be placed in Johnson; otherwise, they'll put you in one of the other dorms. As far as bathrooms, I believe that all of the freshman dorms are hall style. It's possible you'll get placed in a single, but it's not possible to ask for one.

I'm more than happy to answer any questions that you've got, but I'm afraid that I wont be any help with the poli-sci department questions, though I do know that our poli-sci department is supposed to be really good.

I've never seen W+L which is supposedly a really nice school. However, I've heard its truly a southern school, not like Wake or Duke which are more cosmopolitian in comparison. Wintston-Salem is a nice sized city, offers an airport in Greensboro, and Division 1 sports. Wake is a research LAC, W/L is an LAC.
