I'm not sure whether to apply for any of the Wake Forest Scholarships. My credentials, while decent, are not spectacular and I don't want to labor over the application which seems to be fairly time consuming, if I don't have a chance of getting a scholarship.

I was thinking the same thing.

Go ahead and apply. If you meet the minimum requirements, you should have a good chance. After all, you don't have to fill out any more college apps, so why not apply? :)

Wake also has lots of scholarship $ given out in the spring that you don't have to apply for, and there's a ton of good scholarships besides the Reynolds and the other big ones.

I would say go ahead and apply. I have a reasoning behind it but I'm too lazy to type it all out.

This is also a big concern of mine. I am definitely applying for all of the scholarships I qualify for. Do you know anything about the reynolds and carswell processes, like the interview process, how many people get asked to interview, when they are, etc.? I know that the chances of getting these is slim to none, but I'm living in hope! hah! But seriously, what info can you give me???

20 people (or thereabouts) are asked to interview and interviews are held sometime in February (early February this coming year, I believe).

do you have any idea how many people actually write the 3 extra reynolds/carswell essays?

1500 in my year. I think. I may've misunderstood. Either 1500 people wrote the extra three or 1500 submitted the merit based scholarship application (meaning that some only wrote the one essay and some wrote all four).

O wow! Were you one of the 20? That's a LOT of people! I figured the xtra essays and the earlier deadline would weed some out. guess not to the point where it helps!

Like I said, it's entirely possible that the 1500 number that I heard was the number of people who submitted the merit based scholarship application, not the number of people who submitted the extra three essays. In fact, thinking back, I'd say it's very likely. All I know was that we were told 1500.

k thanx ginnyvere

We were also told, by a WF official, that around 1500 students submitted the Merit-based Scholarship application. The 20 finalists were notified in early-mid January, and were interviewed on campus from Sat. morning until Tues. morning (the first week-end in Feb.) Recipients of the Reynolds, Carswell and Graylyn were notified shortly thereafter. But if you're not one of the 20 finalists, don't despair. Wake has lots of great scholarships. We know at least two people who were not R/C/G finalists but were still awarded large (full-tuition or close to it) merit scholarships. There is only one thing for certain - if you do not submit the Merit-based Scholarships application, it is certain that you will not get a scholarship. So if your SAT scores and class rank are in the competitive range, go for it.

^^^
Very true. I applied for the Reynolds (all 4 essays). I didn't get it, but I got about $35,000 in other Wake scholarships. Wake is fairly generous with merit $.

well that is very encouraging warblersrule86! if you don't mind me asking, what were your sats and any other stats?

OK, I had to search but I found my stats.

w86, was the merit aide figure you received per year or all 4 years?

per year

W86, that is fantastic! No wonder you had a difficult time making that decision. Both great schools. Good on you.
