Wake vs. George Washing

I'm looking for why I should go to Wake Forest or George Washington. I can't decide between the two. Thanks for the help, I'm going to be studying Biology with a minor in history.

both are great universities, personally i like Wake Forest better but it ultimately depends on what u are looking for

GW has a great history department and a good biology dept. If it comes down to what you want to study or money, I would definitely go with GW

I'd say the major, obvious diff is WHERE, i.e. what type of school climate, atmosphere, demographic do you desire? WFU and GWU are night and day in that regard. WFU is definitely the higher prize generally, but that means diddley squat. And if you love spectator sports, that answers your question.

Seriously, I cannot imagine any significant academic differential worth splitting hairs over though. This ought to be the easiest of decisions.

I know they are all different, but I like all of the schools. Which is the best academically?

I mean, I go to Wake Forest, so I'm biased. But, more helpfully, I'm also a biology major, and I can try to answer any specific questions if you have any.

I'd say you've got them in the right order, Meadesport. Good luck. Now, if you're in honors, UD has a superb program. Otherwise, it's a good, not great state U. GW, GC are same, imo, only privates. GWU is grossly over-priced for the value, imo.

ginnyvere - could you tell me about the professors and their attitude towards teaching. What are the opportunities for undergraduate research? What are you impressions of Wake, I'm sure you love it but could you tell me why? Thanks

There are tons of opportunities for undergraduate research. As a matter of fact, it's a requirement for getting the BS in Biology, and so Wake Forest really wants its students to do research. The BA doesn't require research, but almost everyone ends up getting the BS because the requirements are the same otherwise. The research can be done during the school year or during the summer. And you can do it for class credit, or you can apply for a summer fellowship and get paid for the research. You can also opt to do research off campus as well. Lots of students do research at the medical center, and others do them in the summer at institutions closer to home, and it's a relatively easy process to get it to count for your research credit.

The biology department is big on PowerPoints. Almost all the professors put their powerpoints online for us to download before class for note-taking, which is really, really nice.

I have really loved the biology department. My professors are great and really easy to approach with questions. They all seem to really like teaching. Even though they (almost) all maintain labs, they're not just here to do research.

Whistle Pig....where do your kids attend school? You seem to be on so many boards.

State Penn

Yea, my mama says I'm like horse manure in Amish country ... She's a sweet ol gal. Went to Vassar.

Honestly, the more I read and learn about Wake, I can’t see why anyone would want to go anywhere else. But, do some research and find out which U has a better success rate for admitting grad students to the field you’re most interested in.

those are 2 completely different schools.... if you want a city, no campus feel then you want GW but if want a closed campus in a more rural area wake should be your choice

also, i think wake forest is looked at in a much higher light than GW.... but it really depends what you're looking for
