Thanks for the list. I'm a winner!

I am very confused as to why Alabama has less winners than Alaska (trust me, there are Wal-Marts as far as the eye can see in Bama) and why the high schools cut off at the letter B. Other southeastern states with similar populations like Mississippi and Kentucky have pages and pages of winners. It doesn't seem like it could possibly be all the Alabama winners...

I got a phone call the other day. I misunderstood the lady and had thought that she said she was with "Countrymart" which is our local grocery store. I thought that was strange since I had never applied for a scholarship from them. Apparently, it was from Wal-Mart because I found my name on the list. I guess I need to listen a little better. :)

actually there are lots and l ots of walmarts in alaska. its their main all-purpose big box retailer

So does anyone know what we are supposed to do now? I got one, haven't gotten any phone calls. Will they just contact my college or something?

They told someone else that they would get paperwork in the mail, so probably watch out for that. Last year everyone received notification by mail.

On the call I received, the lady told me the scholarship would not be official until the first of May. She said once she received the paperwork in the mail, she would call my principal and arrange a time for us to come by the store to pick up the award.

Like Internet Nomad, I would really like to know what happened in Alabama. There's no way it's right.

Thanks for the list!!
I didn't know I get it until now.
YES =)

I got it! Wow, was not expecting that!

Anyone know: Will we be in the newspaper? Are they going to send us letters to give to our local newspaper?

Is the Community Scholarship a one time thing, or is it renewable?

I didn't get one, but congrats to those who did :)!

Dd received a letter from SPA today to go online and formally accept the sam walton community scholarship. It is a one time non renewable scholarship.

hey, I just received the letter too. This is puzzling me, in the letter it says:

"If you will receive other funds that pay entirely for tuition, fees, books, and on-campus room and board, please email me immediately (xxx@xxx.xx)"

I am still expected to pay a 1200 dollars student contribution but I have another scholarship that would be able to cover for that. I guess I do have a full ride. I guess if I email them and they decide to decline my scholarship, that would be okay. However, what are the chances for them to offer me the amount in a check made to my name? The travel allowance I got won't be able to get me back home for Thanksgiving or Spring Break, so I kinda want to save up some money. I don't want to be selfish though so I dunno...

I got the Sam Walton Scholarship too. On the online acceptance form it says something about newspaper, do we have to put our picture and stuff on there

I didn't see anything about newspapers on the online acceptance form. All I saw was basic information (name, address, college, etc).

ditto what hamman said. i'm in the same situation. does anyone know?

I'm wondering about the full tuitition scholarship thing also. I received TU's Presidential Scholarship which covers tuition and room and board. With each outside scholarship I receive, TU will subtract that amount from my scholarship.

What will happen if I send an e-mail per the reference in the SPA letter?

bump bump anyone know anything about the full tuition thing
