Walk On to the Women's Track team?

Hi everyone! I’m going to be a senior in high school this fall and I’m looking into colleges that I’m interested in applying to. I ran indoor and outdoor track during my freshman and sophomore years of high school (I’m kind of meh at it to be honest, but I LOVE track), but I took a break during junior year because I knew I would exhaust myself if I even attempted to do sports and manage my workload at the same time. I plan on running both indoor and outdoor track during senior year, and I would like to continue running in college. Does anyone know if it would be remotely possible for me to walk on to the Yale track team? Is getting in contact with the coaches a good idea? Also, if walking on to the team isn’t likely, are there other options (club teams maybe) at Yale through which I could pursue running? Thanks for helping!

Have you compared your current “best times” to those members on Yale’s track team? If YOUR best times equals (or exceeds) a member of the team, then you stand a good chance of being a walk-on. If your times are not as competitive, then you don’t stand a chance. Click on each name in the woman’s track team register for their best times: http://www.yalebulldogs.com/sports/w-xc/2016-17/roster

FWIW: Yale does not offer a club sport for track : http://sportsandrecreation.yale.edu/club-sports-ims/club-sports/club-sport-directory. They do have a road running club, but I imagine those students compete in local marathons and not track meets.

Thank you so much!

Simply look at the recruit/walk-on time standards. If you are fast enough, you can walk on.
