does anyone no how I might go about trying to walk on to the football and/or track teams?

Walking on to the football team is extremely difficult. Walking on to the track team is probably also difficult, but slightly more doable. I'd suggest trying to contact the coaches directly (you can find their names at www.mgoblue.com , and then look up their e-mail on the directory at www.umich.edu). If you live close enough to the area, you could go to Weidenbach Hall (corner of State and Hoover) and hopefully get a meeting with one of the coaches. At a large and competitive university like Michigan, most of the sports teams are going to be almost completely filled by recruits, so there's not very many spots for walkons.

Thanks Dilksy, that was about what I was thinking, but do any of you guys out there know of any stories of people walking on to competitive sports teams as competetitive as Michigan's? What are there stories, and how could I possibly contact one of them?

Obviously it's hard, but I think it's definitely do-able. There are so many names on that football roster, and only 85 are scholarship. Granted, most of the walk-ons are lucky to dress for a few home games during their career, but if you read the media guides many had relatively pedestrian high school numbers and rankings. Check the roster on mgoblue.com for a list of walk ons, and send them a message on facebook or something.

People definitely walk-on to the teams. I'm sure that a few walk-on players have even been granted scholarships in latter years.

Do you have any game tapes from high school?

I was actually recruited to play DIII football at Carleton College, so, yes, I do have a highlight tape from high school.

Then definitely send a copy of those highlights to the coaches. Let us know if you make the team. That would be a first for our forum! LOL!
