Walking through hell to pass through HADES gates.

As for what mpicz stated, last year there were several students who ultimately did not get in to any boarding schools, despite being qualified. What happened is that they decided not to apply to any safety schools. I have a feeling the same thing will happen this year. I don't mean anything against the current applicants, but sometimes you don't get in just because of bad luck...like there are too many clarinet players who were accepted the previous year, so your "hook" just isn't needed this year.

There are many great schools with higher acceptance rates that are not mentioned here as much, and you will still get a great education there, despite them being a "safety" choice.

I have been following this board for too many years. Each year there are posters who only apply to the most competitive schools and then disappear after March 10th. They do not want to post their bad news.

One of those mysterious disappearing posters might end up being me. I applied to zero safety schools because I'd prefer to stay at my current school than go to a safety that I didn't really have my heart set on to begin with. After all, it's not as if my livelihood is dependent on my being accepted into top-tier American boarding schools. The three that I applied to are the ones that I can see myself loving. Somehow I just can't see myself at Governor's or Taft.

By the way, I would prefer the Abel price to the Field's prize... The Abel cash grant if normally larger(by 100 fold) AND the Abel is for lifetime achievement. Not just under 40(I think field's is under 40).

The contest my teacher put me into is great(cash wise). I've won chapter, I've won state and I'm hoping to place in Nationals. My teacher wrote about it in my Recommendation... Do you think I should send the article to Admissions once they rank everyone? They finish ranking them in February(the 10th).

Wait what?

But ya, I'm in the same boat as Tom. If I can't go to the best I'm not sure it's worth it, I like my current private school. Personally thats why I didn't apply to any back-ups, plus I need the financial aid and the small schools just aren't as generous.

Yeah. When people ask what my safety is, I'm like... my public school?

^same here

Grr... I wish that were the case for me... We (that is, the rents and I) made the decision to apply for boarding school early November of 08, and since we didn't know too much about ... well, everything, I ended up applying to 11 schools with about 2 months to get everything done, including ALL the interviews, recs, essays.

Right now, I'm so incredibly sick of writing essays its just horrible. Everything I read and write just seems to turn into mush and its unbelievably stressful. Buuut, that said, I know that come March 10th, it'll all be worth it if I get into HADES.

2 crazy selective schools, 1 amazing, selective school, 1 up and coming safety school. Yaaay.

What inspired your name, AlextheCheesyPoo?

hahahahaha

Well, its the damned website only let me use 15 letters! I was going for AlextheCheesyPoof (from South Park, a rather guilty pleasure of mine... yes, I am aware of how incredibly rude it is... no, I won't stop watching it), but all I could fit in was AlextheCheesyPoo, so that'll have to do...

You, TomtheCat, and for that matter, thingslost?

Uh.... I lose a lot of stuff. Like I don't actually lose lose it, I misplace it. :D I stick it somwhere, and I find it like two years later... "OH! THAT'S where I put it!"

Because my name is Tom and I'm a cat. What, have you never seen a cat posting on CC before? If not then you definitely need to get out more...

Random much? :P love it!

Your names not tom lol, unless your facebook name is wrong. Although I didn't see to much hair in the pictures you could very well be a cat.

I'm guessing nickname?

Just adding this to the like original topic, but i'm not exactly going to a hades school just to get into a good college...(i didn't even know what hades was until like 5 minutes ago)
but seriously even when i was applying and deciding, i did not care anything about college matriculation...i'm sure my parents looked at it, but it was never a deciding factor for me
it sounds really cheesey and like chiche but i guess i came for the experience
wowww never thought i would say that
