I have currently been offered acceptance to two universities. One on the east coast with a strong pipeline into Wall Street and the other in the heart of Silicon Valley with strong ties to tech companies out there (and even some SF/LA banks/vencap firms). From what I have seen both schools are nearly identical, but I can’t decide what job location I should go into. What is the better field to go into? Any job I would have in the valley would likely be non-stem (prolly related to finance). Any experience from people in a similar situation?
There are many ways to approach this.
West Coast schools produce great candidates for Silicon Valley and Wall Street but most importantly Silicon Valley.
East Coast schools produce great candidates for Wall Street and Silicon Valley but most importantly Wall Street.
If you want finance go east coast, if you want tech go west coast.
If you go finance you can do corporate finance for a large tech company, if you go compsci you can become a quant for a bank.
There are many ways to look at this and whatever school you choose, you won’t have to worry about opportunities.
@LionKid I already knew that. I was asking more about opinions of Wall Street vs SV.
@debe3445 it also depends on what type of job you want. Venture capital would be very popular in silicon valley while banking will be more popular on wall street. Both are extremely different types of jobs so you should look into each and decide based upon what you see yourself liking more
