Does anyone know how much financial need is considered in awarding the Walmart Community scholarships? Is there an income level that disqualifies applicants regardless of merit? Thanks in advance to anyone responding with information (anecdotal evidence is great).

Financial need is only one factor in the scholarship selection process, and there isn't an income level cap on the website. They do have two handouts that are helpful at Wal-Mart Stores—Scholarships. It can't hurt to apply for this regardless of income level or any other factors. Also, since it's scholarship program that's awarded locally, the pool of applicants may actually be fairly small so you'd have a better chance of winning. When I applied as a HS senior, this was one of the 75+ scholarships that I applied for. Even though I didn't get this one, I still had pretty good success with scholarships. My advice: In applying for scholarships, don't think so much about how you will succeed with any one scholarship. It's better to cast your nets wider so you have a better chance of winning.

When its say 1st page of 2006 taxes, does it mean front page only or front and back of 1040.

When I submitted my forms, I submitted a double-sided copy of my parents' 1040 Form. Here's the tip they give:

"When submitting tax information for financial need, be sure the form shows the adjusted gross income, the number of dependents covered by that income, and any other required data. The first page of the standard Federal 1040 tax return provides that information. Submit only copies of tax forms unless originals are required."

It can't hurt to just submit the front and back.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking myself. Don't need any silly reasons for disqualification.

For those of you that applied, where did it say what forms we have to send in? I am ready to submit my application, but it keeps talking about supporting materials but I can't find a list of what those are supposed to be. I figured transcript w/test grades and a copy of the tax return were necessary, but is there anything else? Thanks :)

When you printed out your information from the website, a list of what needs to be turned in will be printed out too.

I think you need a transcript and the first page of your parent's tax return.

Last year my son was one of two recipients at his school that received the Wal-Mart scholarship. We make under $60 thousand a year...if that helps you any. He had great stats though.
