Does anyone know if there are Targets and/or Walmarts near Berkeley? Because I have gift cards from there, and wanted to know if I should use them before going to Berkeley or not.

Do the shoping before you get there, regardless of whether the stores are there or not. That way, when everyone is rushing to them, you'll be all set.

Yeah i agree, but fyi the nearest walmart that i know of is in oakland. Im not sure how you get there by bus, cause i have always driven there. And target...i think there is one in albany and again not sure how to get there by AC Transit.

the nearest target is in el cerrito next to bed bath and beyond. i know cuz thats wehere im going to get all my college crap.

the address for target is 11450 san pablo ave. el cerrito, ca

its by no means "close" to berkeley but its accesible if ur parents are driving u there. hope this helps

The albany one is closest to berkeley, its address being 1057 Eastshore Hwy , Albany, CA.

just do a "store locator" search on the websites and then mapquest it?

i dont know about the "do your shopping before you get here" advice b/c it seems like a hassle to have to bring EVERYTHING with you. besides sometimes you just don't know what you'll need until you get here

there are also dorm trips to target, bed bath & beyond during welcome week

I did the store locator and that was the nearest to campus. And i see where you are coming from, about bringing everything. The only thing is, is that the dorm trips are by bus, and you really can only buy what you can hold, which isnt too much. If you bring everything, you usually have your parents car and ppl to help you haul it to your room.

oops i stand corrected then. sry bout that. that target is just close to the closest BBB in berkeley haha

The most easily accessible Target would be the one in El Cerrito. It's right at the El Cerrito del Norte BART station, which is only 3 stations north of Downtown Berkeley.

I know you can get to a Target that's close enough by using a bus, but I don't think there are any Wal marts close by.

Walmart is for trailer trash.

Wal*Mart is also for college students who are tight on cash who are not looking for quality goods, but just something that WORKS.

They sell quaility goods too, and some ppl are on tight budgets and cant afford the most expensive things, thats why walmart is good.

The Target in El Cerrito is close (by driving standards, maybe 10 mins.) and HUGE! It's two stories -- with a really cool escalator that takes carts up -- and even has groceries. I'd never been in such a big Target. The BBB is fairly close to campus, too, and is well-stocked, even on move-in day (we were there last year after forgetting to bring our son's bedding - duh!).
