Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication

anyone currently attending?
hows the new phoenix campus?
i recently was accepted.

thanks

My son was accepted by Cronkite last year, but decided to go to a LAC instead. I really felt that Cronkite was a real gem. We flew out last spring break to see the new campus, and unfortunately it was still pretty much a work in progress. I don't think he was able to visualize what life would be like. Even though he declined the admissions (and the scholarship and BHC-ouch) we are still on the email list. We receive emails 4 or 5 times a week from Cronkite (we've tried repeatedly to get off the list) and the events are just amazing. For example, ESPN had a seminar, ABC News has chosen ASU one of 5 campuses in the country to have a partnership with, there was a seminar on scriptwriting...

I think every school is what you make it, and I think the Cronkite School would be a great place to launch a career if you take advantage of the opportunities.

N2L: If you're still around, can you share a suggestion for a hotel near the Phoenix campus? We'll be visiting in 2 weeks and are trying to choose between a downtown location or Scottsdale, but we'll only be in the Phoenix area for one night before heading north to Prescott.

We stayed in a hotel near the airport, so I can't vouch for any downtown Phoenix hotel, however we did see several big chain hotels within a few blocks of the Cronkite School. One was a Sheraton and another might have been an Omni (I'm not 100% sure of that one)

We were more price driven, and found the traffic not to be bad.

Ok, so I checked and the hotels near the school are Sheraton, Wyndham and Hyatt. I think they are all pretty pricey though. Now that the lite rail is running, it would probably be alot cheaper to stay in Tempe and take the rail in. Tempe was alot of fun - lots of restaurants and shops and lots of people milling about. Phoenix, not so much. Good luck with the college search!

Thanks for the input. The real point of the trip is to visit S1 at his school in Prescott, but since S2 has an interest in journalism programs, we thought we'd sneak in a tour of ASU. Wish the school was still on the Tempe campus, because yes, the hotels are all pretty pricey in downtown Phoenix. I'm considering the Holiday Inn Express, but the price of $313 for one room for one night is unbelievable considering the HIE we're staying at in Prescott is only $85/night.

Another planned activity is dinner with my H's college roommate in Scottsdale, so perhaps we'll also check out the hotels in Old Town.

Just figured out why the HIE is so pricey... on February 15th (the night I'm trying to book a room) the NBA All-Star game is being hosted in Phoenix. S2 is thrilled...now figures the trip to visit his brother will be worth it!

Good to hear such positive reviews from posters. I have an unrelated question.

I applied in December but my ap wasn't reviewed until early Jan. When should they be finished reviewing my application? How long did it take you to find out?
