Wanna chance me for GW?

Hey I'm a senior applying regular decision and I'm hoping to get in and get a merit scholarship. Just a few things about me below....

I go to the #4 public school in New Jersey. Really competitive, a lot of kids apply to GW from my school.

Weighted GPA (out of 5.0 scale): 4.35
Top 10% of my grade
ACT: 30 (32 reading, 30 math, 29 english, 28 science)
SAT: 1940 (620 reading, 660 math, 660 writing)

AP Classes:
Junior Year: AP US History (5), AP Biology (5)
Senior Year: AP Spanish, AP Calc AB, AP Art History
--All other classes taken were honors classes besides geometry and precalc

Extra Curricular activities:
Vice president of Spanish Club (4 years)
Editor of School Newspaper (4 years)
Student Government Appointed Officer (4 years)
Spanish National Honor Society Officer & Member (one year -only seniors)
National Honor Society Member (one year -only seniors)
Debate Judge (2 years)
Varsity XC (1 year)
JV Outdoor track (3 years)
Was a delegate for American Legion Boys State

I'm applying to the business school but I'm a little concerned about my extra curricular activities. I enjoy everything I participate in but I'm afraid that it looks like a laundry list just to show what I'm involved in. What do you think?

GW is my first choice and I hope to get in and get some money!
Thanks so much!

I think you have a good shot. You’re SAT is a little under what they look for, but you have a lot of extracurriculars and leadership, which is good. Merit scholarships are hard to come by, though.

Good luck!

again as in another thread, the SAT score is around the median score. NOT lower than what they are looking for.

thanks for your comments! do you think that the 30 on the acts off sets the lower sat score? because I’ve heard that the 30 might be a little higher…

and also i was considering applying ed II, but does anybody know if that would affect the chances of getting a merit scholarship? i know that the school says it doesn’t affect financial aid but would it affect a merit scholarship?

from what I’ve heard, merit scholarships are hard to get and it doesn’t seem you have the stats (me neither). ED2 gives you an advantage for admission so if its your number school, definitely apply ED2.

I have the same exact scores you do and I got in ED1 this year. I am also hoping for a merit scholarship so I will tell you if I get it. You shouls also apply ED2 LIKE EVERYONE ELSE SAYS.

I’m still hesitant about applying ed 2 because I’m afraid about making a commitment and the whole scholarship thing. When do you find out about your scholarship sayidreddy?

Like we said, having doubts about committing to a school is a good reason not to do ED2, but it would unwise not to do it only over a scholarship that you have little to no chance at getting. It looks like the admit rate for ED2 vs. Regular will be very different.

btw I applied ED1 with a 31 ACT and 3.65 GPA. No merit money :-(

Hey anyone mind chancing me? I am a senior at a fairly competitve preparatory school from Pennsylvania. Kids have been accepted to univ of chi, upenn, and georgetown so far. I took 2 APs … English Lit -4 Physics AB … I have taken four honors classes … gpa is a 3.7 unweighted … SAT 640 CR 680 Math 630 Writing. All comments are appreciated. Male / Caucasion / Sister attends GW law school presently.
