Wanna play a game?

Guess where the poster above you will end up next Fall! Post stats, major, and schools you applied to in order of preference. I'll start.

3.88 GPA
EC: 6/10
PS: 6-7/10
Anthropology major (BA)

UCB

UCLA

UCSD

UCD

UCI

You didn’t list a place for major prep that’s pretty important lol

Also are we to revisit this thread in March/April and see who was right?

Some people might be insulted if other posters don’t think they’ll get in to some of the schools to which they’re applying.

@Gunnnn - All people can do is give their honest opinion and we will know in March/April, some might not like it but hey if they do get in after all they can always come back and boast their underdog admission.

OK, everyone follow Matt’s model! List GPA, Major prep, EC’s, PS, and major. Plus anything else people might find relevant! We should try to report back in April too.

@Gunn, Yeah, I see what you’re saying! I’ve seen this used on other forums and generally it’s a lot of fun and people tend to not take it all that seriously. Hopefully haha.

@Snorlaz - IMO:

UCB -Accepted 80/20
UCLA - Accepted 80/20
UCSD - Accepted 100/0
UCD - Accepted 100/0
UCI - Accepted 100/0

3.25 GPA Big upward trend
EC: 1.5/10
PS: 8/10
Sociology major (BA)

This list order is assuming they all offer me the same financial aid/grants/scholarships $$$.

 1. UCB - MP: 2/3 (the third is only available at like two CCC’s & says on UCB site to take at UCB)
 2. UCSB MP: 9/9 and TAG’d
 3. UCSD MP: 6/6
 4. SDSU MP: 5/6
 5. UCLA MP: 3/4

@Matt4200 imo:

 1. UCB - Rejected; well depending on your circumstances in the PS sorry :frowning:
 2. UCSB MP: Accepted
 3. UCSD MP: Accepted; a little more iffy
 4. SDSU MP: Accepted
 5. UCLA MP: Rejected; same as UCB

My Stats:
UC GPA:~3.83
Major GPA:~3.8-3.99 (somewhere inbetween prob near 3.9)

UC Berkeley: Chemical Biology
-Missing one prereq, class not available anywhere near me

UCLA: Biochemistry
-possibly missing one or two prereqs, need to confer with counselor as circumstances have changed

UCSD: Biochemistry
-missing one or two prereqs; same ones as UCLA

UCI: Chemical Engineering (Tagged)

so the problem is that i have a mixed record with 2 classes from CSUF (taken as a HS senior), and so i am subjected to a unit limit, making me unable to take missing prereqs without going over the unit limit

PS: honestly not anything special i feel, although i may be a little harsh on myself; but probably average
EC: none; instead worked throughout (~15-20 hrs a week) and tutored on the side (~2 hrs a week)

@Matt4200

UCB (70/30 chance because of your life story)

UCSB (80/20)

UCSD (60/40)

SDSU (100/0)

UCLA (20/80 because UCLA is almost excessively concerned with numbers, unlike Berkeley. Then again, the other UCs not including Berkeley care about numbers only, it seems.)

Well, now my stats:

3.88 GPA

EC: 1/10
PS: 6/10

Philosophy major (BA)

List of schools I applied to in order of preference:

UCLA: All pre-reqs completed.

UC Berkeley: pre-reqs aren’t offered at most CCs, so it doesn’t matter.

UCSD: Didn’t complete UCSD’s one pre-req

UCSB: Completed pre-reqs.

UCI: One pre-req missing.

@Bookham

UCB - Accepted 60/40
UCLA Rejected 40/60
UCI - Accepted 100/0
UCSB - Accepted 75/25

@Cayton - Rly? You think my PS is UCB good?

UCLA - Accepted 90/10 Avg GPA enrolled is 3.55 for you major
UCB - Accepted 90/10
UCSD - Accepted 90/10 only because if they only had 1 Pre-Rec and it’s not complete
UCSB - Accepted 100/0
UCI - 100/0

Just sit back and wait for those acceptances!!!

@Matt4200

Well, I skimmed over your PS and I know about your situation and how you overcame it. Berkeley likes people like you, so I think you have a good shot there. Sadly, the other UCs don’t value that very much, but they’re not as good as Berkeley. ;)

And I’m glad you think my acceptance chances are high, even for Berkeley. I’ve always felt a little iffy about Berkeley because of its more holistic process. It benefits people like you, as it should, but it hurts my chances somewhat because I have no good ECs and my PS is so-so. Regardless, all UCs should do the holistic process in my opinion.

@Snorlaz I dont know about the completion of your prereqs/IGETC, but assuming there are no major problems there…

UCB: Accepted 85/15
UCLA: Accepted 85/15
UCI: Accepted 100/0
UCSD: Accepted 100/0
UCD: Accepted 100/0

@Matt4200: Your GPA is on the low side, this might be a bit harsh

UCLA: Rejected 20/80
UCB: Rejected 30/70 (UCB tends to value the essays more than the others)
UCSD: 50/50
UCSB: Accepted 55/45
SDSU: Accepted 90/10

@Bookham: Tough major man, but your GPA is good, so your definitely competitive for all.

UCB: 50/50
UCLA: Rejected 35/65
UCI: Accepted 100/0
UCSD: Accepted 60/40

@Cayton: You should be in everywhere, I’d be shocked if you didn’t get into all.

UCLA: 90/10
UCB: 90/10
UCSD:95/5
UCSB: 100/0
UCI: 100/0

Heres my stats

Major: Political Science
UC GPA: 3.93
IGETC: Done
EC’s: 7-8/10 - Competitive athlete, lots of work experience (business related and tutoring) and volunteer hours… not major related though
Essays:9/10: Wrote about overcoming very rough life circumstances

Schools (In order of preference):

UCLA: Pre-reqs completed - 3/5 (the others are not offered at my school or at most CCC’s) but completing 3 (according to assist) is the minimum requirement.

USC (Applied as Business Admin, USC GPA should also be 3.93, major pre-reqs done.

UCB: Pre-reqs completed - 2/4 (Learned recently that they don’t accept AP credits for the 2 remaining pre reqs)

UCSB: Pre-reqs completed - All

UCSD: Pre-reqs completed - All

Im basically UCLA/USC or bust…

@nickkwooddd

I’d say you have an 80% chance of getting in at UCLA. UCB is iffy…your life story will help in the admissions process, so maybe 60~70%. 100% chance at UCSB and UCSD. Don’t know anything about USC.

@nickkwooddd also, I would say your GPA is very strong and that your EC’s and personal statement will give you an edge over some other applicants. I would say:

UCSD - 100/100
UCSB - 100/100
UCLA - 82/100
UCB - 75/100
USC - 82/100

Here are my stats:

Major: Computer Science
UC GPA: 3.47
IGETC: Done by this Spring
EC’s: 3/10
Essays: 7.5/10

Schools in order of preference:

UCSD: completing last prereq this Spring
UCB: will be missing one prereq
UCD: will be missing one prereq
UCI: completing last prereq this Spring
UCSC: will be missing two prereqs

Ok, this looks fun!

Snorlaz
Berkeley: Accepted.
UCLA: Accepted [your major isn’t impacted, so that’s great!]
UCSD: Accepted
UCD: Accepted (this campus before Irvine, REALLY? Lol)
UCI: Accepted

Matt4200

Berkeley: Rejected; your GPA is pretty low but you do have a good PS. So hope it gives you a push! 20/80 chance.
UCLA: Rejected; same with Berkeley. 20/80 chance.
UCSB: Accepted
SDSU: Accepted
UCSD: Waitlisted; I’m kind of 50/50 on this one for you.

Bookham

Berkeley: Accepted. It’s 50/50
UCLA: Rejected 40/60 (good major GPA though)
UCSD: Accepted
UCI: Accepted

Cayton

UCLA: High chance. Most likely accepted, I’d say around 75-80%
Berkeley: 50/50 chance.
UCSD: Accepted
Irvine: Accepted
Santa Barbara: Accepted

nickkwooddd

Berkeley: 50/50 Missing those prereqs may work against you. But your PS can boost you!
UCLA: 50/50 same issue with Berkeley.
USC: Accepted (60/40 chance)
UCSB: Accepted
UCSD: Accepted

bhav007

UCSD: 60/40 chance - I think you’ll be accepted though. Or waitlisted.
Berkeley: Rejected; 30/70 chance.
Davis: Accepted
Irvine: Accepted
Santa Cruz: Accepted

Ok, my stats:

Major: Political Science
UC GPA: 3.83
EC’s: 7.5-8/10
Essays:9/10

Schools:

Berkeley: All prereqs completed.
UCLA: Only missing one prereq that I will be completing in the spring.
UCI: All prereqs completed.
UCSD: Tagged. Completing last prereq in the spring.

@Cayton -

Yeah life can be easy for some and harder for others, more obstacles have been put in my way but somehow I’ve made it this far.

As for you and UCB I definitely think you’re good, yeah your EC’s could be better, and a 6/10 PS is about average TBH but you have perseverance and a 3.88 GPA with a philosophy major is really good like UCLA and UCB good, I think you just gotta sit n relax.

@Nickkwooodd - No that’s about what I expected, except for UCSB, I TAG’d there and met the TAG, but even without it my GPA is great for my major especially with all major prep why’d you put 55/45?

@Bhav007 -

UCI 85/15 They use the PS in their admissions
UCD 85/15
UCSD 65/35
UCSC 70/30
UCB 20-25/80-75 (Depending on content and quality of PS)

@OCnative -

UCB: 90/10 (Accepted) PS and EC’s give you that push
UCLA: 95/5 (Accepted)
UCI: 100/0 (Accepted)
UCSD: 100/0 (Accepted)

@Matt4200

I appreciate the reassuring words! Let’s hope we all get in to our respective dream schools.
@ocnative:
Berkeley: 90/10 chance, I think.
UCLA: Completing a pre-req in spring for an impacted major might hurt you, but your application is otherwise stellar. I think you have a 60~70% chance here.
UCI: 100/0
UCSD: 100/0

@Ocnative
UCB: 80/20
UCLA: 90/10 I hope you get in :slight_smile:
UCI: ACCEPTED
UCSD: ACCEPTED

@nickkwooddd
UCLA: 80/20
UCB: 70/30 (prerequisites are very important)
UCSB: ACCEPTED
UCSD: ACCEPTED

@Bookham (good competitive GPA, you have a good chance in my opinion).
UCB: 70/30
UCLA: 80/20
UCSD: 90/10
UCI: ACCEPTED

@Matt200 (personal statement will definitely help, but it’s certainly not everything they’re looking for, your GPA is low, but I still think you have a chance best of luck).
UCB: 40/60
UCLA: 50/50
UCSD: 60/40
UCSB: ACCEPTED
SDSU: ACCEPTED

@Bhav007 (Your major is impacted at most UC campuses).
UCSD: 60/40
UCB: 20/80
UCD: 70/30
UCI: ACCEPTED
UCSC: 90/10

My stats:
UC GPA: 3.83 Major: 3.90
Major: UCB: Molecular Cell Biology, UCLA: Neuroscience, UCD: Neurobiology physiology and behavioral science, UCSD: Neuroscience.

PS: 8-9/10
Additional Info: UCB: TAP, UCLA: TAP, UCD: TAG. I’m done with all prerequisites and even recommended courses for UCB.

**This is just my opinion, I don’t know anything about any of you, and I don’t know if you guys finished all the prerequisites. BEST OF LUCK :)

@ucastell

150% chance of getting accepted in to every UC you applied to lol
