want choose a graduate school for MFA

hey~there

I'm creating my list of school to apply now, and the degree I want to apply is MFA.

My background is graphic design,
and what I've made now is some posters, flash animaiton,
typography and even photography, so many different directions.

I want to pursue further study at this area, maybe step into the web interaction,
interaction installation or the user interface design.

Here is my first list, but I'm not sure if I've made the right decision.

MCAD
SCAD
PARSONS
SVC
SAIC
SUNY(FIT)
CUNY
UMICH
UCLA
WISC

I choose them for the impression of the website, the portfolio and the courses they offered.
If anyone know something about these school or other good school, could you tell me?
You may offer the information about the course, the professor, the style, what they focus on,
and whether it is easy to find jobs.

Thx so much!=)

Hey there. Im going into my senior year as a graphic design/illustration major and going through the same thing in researching grad schools. RISD has a great graphic design program, as does Yale. MICA and SVA have good illustration programs, and I think MICA has graphic design as well. NYU has an interesting media design program. I’m also looking abroad at a couple of schools in England such as the Royal College of Art and Edinburg. I dont know too much about any of the schools yet, still doing research, so I hope you get some replies.

I quite liked some of the work that comes out of yale’s mfa graphic design program. I’ve come across a few of their students while browsing design blogs. They seem to be a little more experimental than other schools. CSM in the uk is also highly regarded for their communication/graphic design programs.

Yea I’ve looked at CSM for a couple of years and I like them as well. It’s funny with what you say about Yale, I told my type teacher a year ago that I was going to eventually apply for grad school and was interested in yale and she told me I was too experimental for Yale, and that they are more “safe” but I’ve been looking at their work aswell, and I think they’ve changed for the better.

That may be entirely true. I honestly can’t claim to know what’s going on in design land but I’ve often been told that the art school at Yale in general is quite conservative which doesn’t seem to be 100% accurate.

here are two students i liked

[Home → Zak Klauck](http://zakklauck.com/)
[Vaguely Contemporary](http://www.vaguelycontemporary.com/)

You can go on the school of art’s website and see some of the current student work if you’re interested.

I second Yale and RISD. Take a look at Art Academy in SanFrancisco. Good industry connections.

Last I knew - 4 years ago - SCAD’s MFA G.D. program was stronger for print than interactive/web. I think the MFA program dedicates 3 classes to interactive media.

raininguru, you are up!
come see this nice sister looking for good animation school for bro, how’s SCAD animation these days?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/visual-arts-film-majors/959133-art-programs-students-interests-animation.html</a></p>

sorry hijack

Thanks for the rec Raining, as I seem to be one of the few that is strictly interested in print (no desire to do web or “anything that moves” as I say it).

Hey!
How do you guys think of university of Michigan.
They offer an international study chance which is so attractive to me!

And is anyone know something about the others ?
especially parsons(which I think they have good connection to the industry) and MCAD(Which I like their portfolio style, but afraid for it doesn’t have great reputation)

Thx so much!

Hey guys!
I heard that SCAD and AAS are not as the same as other design schools, and they do not appear on the USnews rank. They seem to be more a skill training school than a design school, and it is kind of easier to get enrolled than other great design schools. Was that true? How you guys think about them?
