i was on put on academic probation after my first semester of college. I was a science major and hated it. I barely passed them with C’s but got good grades in a few of my gen eds. Now its my third semester and i changed my major but i hate the intro class to the major so i want to go to a community college. The problem is that if i fail the class, I might get on probation again. I have to explain why i was on probation so if i avoid getting on probation this semester, I would say that i was in a major i didnt like but then wouldn’t they be suspicious that i got better grades this semester??? If i get on probation, wouldnt they think that i am not ready to have the work ethic needed for community college since i failed to improve? Could they deny me? Or could i just say that four year college wasnt for me im worried they will think i wont do well in the program but its just that i hate these classes and have ZERO motivation to study for them bc im basically still in college so i wont have to pay back this semesters tuition
I think you’re conflating two separate issues here…
- that you're in danger of getting on probation again. FOCUS ON THIS FIRST. Work your absolute hardest this semester. No matter how much you hate the classes, you'll be in a much better position if you leave this university in good standing versus being academically dismissed.
- that you want to go to community college instead. Many community colleges are basically open enrollment. Don't worry about them denying you or not denying you yet. Focus on staying off of probation.
You need to get a grip.
Why are you thinking that the CC cares what you did at another school?
A CC is there to prepare you for a university education, or for another training program and to save you some money. They don’t have, neither the time nor the effort, to think about one student. You are a number/name in a computer. They only care that you pass your classes and move on to the next level in your career.
If you are uncomfortable with a new major, or class, change it. No one is going to think anything about you. College students change majors all of the time. This is college, not middle school. Find a major that you like. My daughter’s roommate changed her major 5 (FIVE!!!) times.
If you are considering dropping out right now, you need to look into how much of your semester’s tuition you will be getting back. It might be nothing or only 25%. You still need to pay even if you don’t complete the semester.
Yes^^^, if you are thinking of withholding tuition money, you need to find out quickly about their fees, because if you leave and owe money, there are consequences. They may withhold your transcript for any other school who needs it in the future.
Im not leaving because i dont want to owe money. Im just worried about the reason im going to be on probation bc you need to pass the background check to apply for the program. so theyre not gonna say i cant apply to the program bc i havent demonstrated that i can succeed at doing higher level work???
Have you asked the community college about all of this?
i dont really want to
…You don’t want to call the people who will know how to answer your question? You’d rather have strangers on the internet make random guesses?
Agree with @bodangles.
That’s why you are stuck.
If you can’t make a simple email, call or letter to a college whose job it is to HELP students, then you may not be ready to attend college.
The office staff is there to help you, but you need to make the first move. They don’t read minds and can’t tell that you need help if you don’t contact them.
Also agree with bodangles. You’re either going to pick yourself up and handle this- you you aren’t. That’s on you.
In post 2, aunt bea explained how cc views you. Other posters gave some perspective on other threads. You have to do your part, whether in the current college or in terms of what it takes to move to another school- or something else is up that’s holding you back, no matter the major or environment.
If this is depression or some adjustment issue, why not head to your current school’s counseling? Please don’t say you don’t want to. It can help.
