Want to go to MSU as a transfer

Hi,

After looking through lots of threads on here I thought I would just make my own. I really want to transfer to MSU. It is my dream school. I am currently at U of M-Dearborn. I do have more credits than would transfer but that is the least of my worries. My main issue is getting in. I have a 2.9 GPA. Will that be enough?

Thanks!

Eh, honestly you’re going to have a heck of a time getting in with anything less than a 3.0. What semester are you in? How many credits do you have?

ETA: Warning, might be ■■■■■. Both U of M and MSU are his/her dream schools.

Thanks for the reply. Haha, I am not a “■■■■■” and either one is a school I would attend, I just want to get into both so I can make a decision. I have 68 credits, will have more after this semester, but I saw that you can transfer 90.

Any advice is welcome…please :)

I don’t really know enough about transfer admissions but as romani said, a 3.0+ GPA is generally what will get you accepted as a transfer student to MSU. But if you have a strong upward trend and have a good application otherwise, admission is definitely plausible.

Thanks for the response, I think I have shown a upward trend, don’t know if it is strong though, I had a 2.84 before this semester, raised it to a 2.9 this semester by getting a 3.1 or so. Has anyone been able to get in with below a 3.0?

You’re on the fence. You won’t know unless you apply. Fa-la-la and Romani think it’s really hard to get into MSU but there are surprises both ways. They take some you think they wouldn’t and they reject others you think they’d take. If you really want to go there, all you have at stake is an application fee and the few hours needed to fill out the application.

Thanks, that gives me a little more hope :)

Also, does anyone know how their transfer credits work? It says you can transfer 90, but does that mean you only have to take 30 there to graduate?

Bump…

BUMP

any success stories with similar stats?

Anyone have more thoughts?

I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. I go to MCC, and I have around a 3.2.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

I GOT IN!!! so hopefully puggini you got in too, or will know soon

:)

Congrats man! I’m happy to hear that!

And thanks, I’m hoping mine will arrive soon, but as of yet no word.

Just curious, what does your application status check on the MSU website say now?

Congrats collegehope20

I thought decisions for transfer students are mailed out sometime in march? Anyway i’m hoping to transfer too, and should be hearing back any week now.

I attend Wayne State, where I have a 3.1, but have had a few withdrawals on my record. I generally tend to enroll in really tough courses (e.g. diffeq/multivariable calc/etc., philosophy graduate courses as a math/philosophy double major). I am a first generation college student, and my GPA is lower in part because of an abrupt change in circumstances this year (moved out on my own, and I now work full time), lots of impressive EC’s and academic activities (i.e. conferences, publications, etc.).

I intend to take advanced calculus (analysis) this summer. If I do well, I will have around a 3.2/3.3 with 67 credits overall. Does anyone think that I have any chance whatsoever to get into MSU as a winter transfer? (If I do get in, I will likely defer to the following fall semester, so that I can get the algebra and analysis sequences out of the way). I only ask because I know that mathematics is one of the tougher programs to transfer into.

Thank you! (and I don’t intend to hijack this thread, but it is both recent and appropriate to my inquiry).

PS, congrats Collegehope! You give the rest of us what your name might suggest lol… Have fun in EL next year!

I think you have a pretty decent shot at getting in from what little I know of transfer admissions, good luck!

Chance me please

Community College GPA: 3.6
Made the deans list
Have 15 credits and am taking 14 this semester
HS GPA: 3.0
ACT: 20
Two letters of recommendation. One from a high school teacher who has known me since middle school and i also worked with him as an assistant teacher in high school. The second one is from a Law firm that i was an intern for.
Lots of community service work
Am taking the English and Math class requirement they have for transfer students.
I believe my statement essay was pretty well written too.
I applied around second week of January.

You sound like a very viable candidate, albeit you’re applying rather early in your academic career. If you aren’t admitted, I would say that applying after your sophomore year, for junior status, would almost guarantee admission. Best of luck!
