Want to have a good laugh?

Ok so all you guys are smart and applied to Yale becuase you have a good chance. I did it because it is my dream and nobody has ever applied from my school. The thing is my stats suck. Wait until you guys see my stats. The Yale admissions committee are going to laugh so hard I will be able to hear it from Georgia!
Here it goes..lol..you guys are going to love this...
I go to a public school in Georia (lets just say the teachers had a party for the average SAT scores breaking 1000)
SAT:1870 hehehe
Did not take SATII but ACT was 28 (i know some of you guys would just about die if you got my scores)
GPA: 4.45 wt/ 3.95 uwt
Rank: 53/433
Ap: World-4, US-3, language-3, and here is the whopper AP Chem- 1 (yeah thats right a big freakin numero uno!)
I really suck at math but otherwise I have taken all honors and AP classes. this year I am taking the hardest course load ever taken at my school (all AP classes)

My essay was good, my recs were grat, and my interview was awesome ( I think she got the impression that I was really smart or something).
Too bad that doesnt count that much with my scores from a public school in Georgia. LOL, I look forward to the small envelope with the nice Yale lettering.

what was the point of this thread? do you want us to tell you that you're wrong and that you have a great chance?

no actually the point was that I have read so many of the blogs about how people have no chance of getting in when they have a 2200 and are only #5 in their class. Everyone who got in Early decision all did amazing stuff like cancer research, have legacies from Yale and Princeton, went to great schools, published books. Those who did not get in were not much different. I guess I did this because I laugh at myself everytime I read a forum because I am actually trying to compete with the greatest young people in the nation and I am not even the greatest in my podunck(is that how you spell it?) school. I just wanted to show people that althoughtheir scores are lower than a 2400, there are people like em who applied with even lower witht he same grand hopes. So dont get discouraged because i will get rejected way before anyone else!

Wow. I'm confused, because I'm not sensing sarcasm, nor narcissm, nor, well, anything. Gah! The world doesn't make sense anymore!

Well, it's cool to know someone here isn't plotting murder/suicide because their scores don't make adcoms swoon. You seem really nice, and, um....good luck?

Dear geniusgen, i think it would be great if you got in. I don't think you can use a tragedy as a hook and you might actually have a bit of a tough time with some classes but i gotta say your seem like someone that would be great to go to school with----I think that counts for something

Genius, I’ve seen worse stats that have really made me laugh. A guy on CC applied to Harvard with like a 1300 (new SAT ) and top 81% of his class. I think you have a decent chance. Btw, did you write about the robbery for one of your essays?

well...i didnt get in with 2200+, ext...emo tears

hey, you could make a few really great essays with those hooks though.

goldfish, yeah I did one of the supplement with that and my main essay was about drunk driving and the problems it causes (ie my relatives). people that read the drunk one cried for the most part but I dont think I quite made it on the other one. It is good to know that I was not the only one to apply to colleges with.. less than average scores could we say?

First off, nobody has "good chance" Yale, no matter what your stats are. The 6.8% projected acceptance rate applies to EVERYBODY.

Secondly, I don't see anything absurd about your stats. You look like a real person with real strengths and real weaknesses. To me that's infinity more appealing than some kid trying to emulate perfection. The adcoms may swing the other way, but f-k them.

Thirdly, test scores count for a lot, but they only take you so far. You can take comfort in the fact that a good chunk of applicants with perfect SATs will be rejected, which will put them on the same level as all the other rejectees come April.

Believe me there are a lot of kids who apply to Yale who look like you. They just don't post their stats on CC.

What about International Olympiad winners? ;)

what is your ethnicity? as much as i hate to admit it, race makes a big difference. btw: im not sure if you a junior or a senior. I got a 28 on the act also, and i have a lot of time to improve.

shark bite, I am a all-white senior. Man I would kill to be native american! My great-great granmother was but that is to far back. Oh well.

"Everyone who got in Early decision all did amazing stuff like cancer research, have legacies from Yale and Princeton, went to great schools, published books."

Nope, I beg to differ. I applied from New Mexico with nothing under my belt, they pitied me, and accepted me. And, by the way, I've seen scores way worse than those. Just come to my school and I'll show you what a poor score truly is.

well, ill be in New Mexico to see my grandfather in February so I will see you ten...jk, jk lol.

I'm really confused about the true definition of "hook".

I feel bad and sympathetic for what happened to your family, but...how is that a hook?!

yea as for your score, i think that's where your tragic encounterings come in as helpful factors. but still not a hook...

I used it as a hook-type-thingy because I said that is why I want to go into politics and go against drunk driving. Also, it helps my case for scores and grades because before the incident, my grades were even more mediocre. Afterwords, my grades shot up and have been all high A's.

yale has a projected 6.8% acceptance rate?!?!?!?!?!!

Faints

dude, no one in my school applied to yale either.

in fact, im the only person in my school to apply to harvard, yale, and princeton

anyways, good luck

in my class of over 800 we've got one Yale, one Princeton, one MIT, and one Harvard.
