Want to know your chances?

Thanks for doing this...I am in the top 5% of my class and my SAT Critical Reading score was 780 and my SAT Math score was 730. I am interested in SFS.

After reading everyone's elses stats, do you have enough from me to calculate? I have a 4.0 uw GPA and I am 24 out of a class of 680. Thanks again.

Yikes, sorry for the delay everyone! Will be replying in reverse order. Cannot wait to make some admitted phone calls in a couple weeks.

I'd need SAT or ACT to make any useful guess. Just going by class rank you have as good a shot as anyone!

m applying regular decision to the college as a psych major. my stats:
SAT: 670 verbal, 600 math, 690 writing... :S
SAT II's: taking in december
8 AP's classes: 4's in human geo and ush, 5 in psych (taking 4 ap's this year-- calc ab, eng lit, comparative govt, us govt)
ACT: taking in december
4th in class rank out of 110 (we have 2 valedictorians so that means that there is no no.3), so top 5%?
GPA: 3.9... uw, 4.216 w

AP Scholar, forensics competed at regionals as 1st in district (won runner-up at regionals).
strong ec's-- captain of english academic team and social studies team, president writers society and environmental club, sca secretary, etc.

does having taken several courses during summer (w/uva and jhu, and 4 courses in pakistan) and speaking 4 languages (not counting spanish from school) help? I know my sat scores arent very high but im hoping my essays and recs will compensate some (i have excellent standing with my teachers) as this is really my first choice school. my grades dropped back in 10th grade where i was out of school alot for medical reasons, should i write explaining this as the reason for my low grades (2 b's?)? also, my cousin goes to georgetown, would having her write a rec improve my chances? sorry for all the quesions, thank you so much again!!
Absolutely no rec from the cousin. Cousins are not important for admissions nor are their opinions, so definitely do not do that. No need to explain 2 B's, since those grades are not terrible, but if your medical condition was super serious then you can get away with mentioning that. It would backfire if you said "I got 2 B's because I broke my ankle" or something like that since it seems like you would be making excuses.

601 apply; 112 in. Knowing multiple languages, taking summer courses, having great recommendations, etc is what can put you in the admitted pile. The ranges I can give are statistics based only. happy to help.

applied EA to SFS
2250 SAT (770 CR, 770 W, 710 M)
SAT IIs:
Lit 800
Math 2 770
World History 790
GPA UW 4.0, W 4.32, top 5% of public high school (11 out of 350-ish)
11 AP classes, National Merit Semifinalist, National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar, strong leadership ec's.

Question: If d's alumni interviewer seemed to strongly dislike her, and told her that he has submitted reports to the admissions office in the past saying that some kids were real "jerks", can he hurt her chances? By the way, she's a polite, hardworking academic student and Georgetown was her first choice. She's confused about how her interview went so badly.
458/201 accepted if I am reading this chart right (I'm in a rush and will check later). The interviewer sounds incompetent and power-hungry. Admissions will discount these reports if it is not clear why the admissions interviewer does not like the candidate and is just being whiney. Was there a specific reason why the interview went badly? That might change things.

If it helps, I have heard from an admissions officer that he has admitted plenty of students despite truly horrible interviews. Stats are infinitely more important, though of course it is subjective and up to each admissions officer.

Not sure if this is still active thread, but here goes: By the way, this is not for me, but my younger S who is applying EA (I'm already settled at a lesser school cuz I am not nearly as smart or industrious as her):

Her stats:
SAT1: 780M / 680CR / 800W
SAT2: 780 US Hist / 780 Math2 / 660(I think) Chem
Ranked 2 / 470
Don't know GPA, but it is prolly at or near 4.0uw.

Thanks for any info, Mario...

EDIT: Sorry... I realize from reading other posts in this thread that you wanted to know what school? She's applying COL

Yeah it's an active thread I'm just so swamped lately. 80/41 in is the numbers I see here. If you don't have the grades yourself you can always transfer if you want to come.

Thank you so much Mario

I have a 650 CR and a 670 Math.
My SAT scores are way low but I have a good GPA. Will it hurt me or help me? I did very well on my AP tests so I'm hoping that shows my school doesn't pad grades.

And do you think my URM and geographical area will help me?
No problem. Yes you will be helped big time by the URM and geography and the GPA. They love URM here and in most schools.

Mario,

I am an international applicant, interested in the FLL. Whats are my chances?
My stats:
-720 Math
-750 CR

-4.0 GPA
-Top 5%

and i have a question about the two last stats. my ninth and tenth grade GPA and rank were much worse. when colleges consider your GPA and rank, do they mean the average of all highschool years?? or just your rank AT THE MOMENT?

Thanks so much.
Not sure I understand. They consider the rank after all 4 years of high school. So if you are ranked #1 throughout the first three years, then have a bad year, Georgetown is interested in the rank when all is said and done, and the GPA is averaged from all four years. 166 apply; 69 in.

hi Mario

sorry to trouble you again. After I sent in my app, I talked to my counselor and he said he didn't rank me (which is good given he'd have randomly put down something). Would you please give me some idea of my chances given my revised stats?
