Want to leave

Hello everyone! I am an international student currently studying in college in the US and I really want to transfer to another school especially now that all my friends transferred. I am very unhappy in school. Leaving my aunty and cousins in new york and coming back to college was devastating. I really want to transfer to a community college in either new York or new jersey. Does anyone know any school that will accept me as the spring semester will begin soon. Please help me out I really want to leave. Please all answers are welcome. Thank you

This is where google comes in. Put in a search of community colleges in the areas you want to live in, then check their websites for enrollment information. It’s all online, including phone numbers for each school in case you have questions. Meantime, contact your current school about their transfer policies. No one here can help you - it’s up to each school and your own efforts.

Not enough info to really be able to help you. Are you in a 4 year college now? are you on an F-1 Visa?

Most community colleges accept students on a rolling basis, and there is usually plenty of info online. For example, here is the info for applying to transfer in on an F-1 to Bergen Community College. Figure out the nearest community college to your family and apply.

BUT…if you are in a 4 year college now, that is a big backward step. Not knowing what college you are in or why/how “all” your friends transferred, not knowing anything about your goals for after college, not knowing anything about you means that there isn’t a lot that I can say.

However, I can say this: I know what it’s like to be an international student and the wrench of leaving a safe homey place like your aunty’s. I don’t know your background, but I also know what it’s like to be one of only a handful of foreigners, with a different language, culture, food tastes, etc to most of the people around me. How people handle that is very individual, but I do know that you are almost certainly not the only person in that situation in your college. Before you run home to your aunty’s, before you give up a four year college for a 2 year college think hard about it. Can you really not make your current college work? are there really no people who can be a community for you there?

So…you are unhappy because

 1. Your friends transferred

 2. You are away from your aunt.

Those are not good reasons to be unhappy in school. Lots of students are away from their parents, and lots of international students are away from their home countries. I am too.

And that is part of studying abroad; you have to deal with being lonely, and you have to deal with difference in language, food, culture etc. Your friends transferring shouldn’t be a reason to change your education plan that will shape your future

Going to community college from 4 year school will be a huge back step, so this is a really bad idea.
