Want to make sure I'm not misunderstanding the FAFSA

In the case of a child of divorced parents where she lives with one 100% of the time (when not at school):

Do we enter both parents’ incomes?

In the listing of the family members, ages, whether they attend college, etc., we just list the one parent and the children living in the student’s household, yes?

Thank you.

In the case of divorced parents, the parent with whom the child lives more than 6 months and 1 day is the only parent who needs to report income. The members of that household, in your case, yourself and the kids, are the only ones who need to be reported as household members. Your ex's income is irrelevant, and need not be included.

If you are remarried, though, you have to include your current spouse's income.

Completing the FAFSA 08-09/The Application Questions(14-31)

This site has detailed info on all fafsa questions.

If the parents are divorced and the student lives with ONE parent 100% of the time...ONLY that parent (and spouse if there is one) has income and assets reported on the FAFSA. The other parent's info is not reported on the FAFSA (but there is a place for child support...or is it alimony? You'd have to check).

And yes...you would list the one parent and the sibs living in the household.

Child support is reported under untaxed income. Alimony is included in the AGI so is not reported separately.
