Want to raise GPA, but worried I'll have too many credits to transfer

I have been attending my local CC for 3 years now. I finished all of my general Ed in the first two years, but decided I wanted to go into engineering instead of liberal arts. My GPA was originally around a 3.3, but it in now at around a 3.4 since taking a couple engineering transfer prerequisites(I didnt care about school while completing general ed, now its been all A's for a few semesters).

My GPA is not quite high enough to transfer to what I would consider a great school, so I have been thinking about taking several easy, nontechnical courses to try to boost my GPA up as high as I can to be more competitive during applications. However I have about 70 college semester credits at this point. (Every course I have taken transfers to UC/CSUs.)

So my question is, does it matter how many credits I have? I dont want to try to take easy classes to boost my GPA if it is going to prevent me from transferring... I have heard some people say that since its a CC I'll be fine, but Im not sure...

Any advice would be appreciated!

No it doesn’t matter how many credits as long as they are all CC credits. You could have 150 CC credits hypothetically and transfer with no hiccups.

The bad part is that most 4 year schools will only accept 70 of those units and only count 70 towards your 4 year degree so if you have a lot of units you don’t get credit for all of them because they are considered lower division.

I see. Thanks a bunch!

The 70 units from CC limit after transfer to UCs and CSUs is for counting units toward the 120 units needed to graduate. But all courses taken do count for subject requirements that they apply to, based on articulation listed at http://www.assist.org .

It’s pretty hard to raise your GPA at 70 units. To go up to a 3.7, you need another 70 units of straight 4.0. 3.6; 36 hours.

Im just gonna take 2-3 easy online courses to go alone with my physics and math prereqs each semester. even if it only boosts my GPA from 3.4 to 3.5 it could be the difference between me getting into my dream school or having to settle.
