want to take 19 credits, 18 credit limit. Can/Should I do anthing?

<p>So here was the schedule I was hoping to have:</p>

<p>intro bio (4credits)
intro chem (4 credits)
calc (4 credits)
intro spanish (4 credits)
FWS (3 credits)</p>

<p>so this comes out to 19 credits. Is there anything a 1st semester freshman can do to take that many credits or are they absolutely strict about the 18 credit limit? Thanks.</p>

<p>When you arrive at Cornell, go speak with your adviser. If he or she gives it the okay, you can pick up a form from your school’s registrar, fill it out and have the adviser sign the form. Then you turn it in. That’s pretty much all there is to it.</p>

<p>You’re missing the PE class, which apparently you have to take in Freshman year.</p>

<p>PE doesn’t count toward the 18 credit limit since it’s not an academic class per say. And you can take PE whenever you want, not necessarily Freshman year. In fact, many people find themselves with more than the required number of PE credits by the time they graduate.</p>

<p>And here is some advice from a mom…Be sure you know what the drop policy is at Cornell in case you decide that the schedule is too much and you need to drop one class.</p>

Ah, alright then! I’m in a similar situation as the OP and I did not want to have to add a PE class to my schedule >_<</p>

<p>It does seem a bit hectic … have you tried plotting it out on Schedulizer?</p>

<p>I planned oneout without the math…it was pretty packed for me o.O</p>

<p>And you do know at Cornell one class is the bio, and a separate course is the laboratory, yes? (Bio class is 3 credits, separate lab is 2) Sorry if this stuff is obvious to you … it wasn’t obvious to me! :s </p>

<p>i wouldn’t take 2 sciences and calc together as a freshman, especially not first semester. i would really wait to see how you can handle one science and calc or just the 2 sciences. you have time to complete your prereqs; don’t worry. just my 2 cents.</p>

<p>Just take Calc or Intro Spanish later. That’s definitely going to be a hectic first semester.</p>

<p>well i took BC calc this year, did fairly well (but dont consider myself by any stretch of the imagination to be a math person), so i dont want to wait a semester before taking Calc I. I guess I’ll probably drop spanish for now. Do you think that would be manageable or is combining calc with 2 sciences just a no go?</p>

<p>You might really want to map out your weeks including lectures, labs, and discussions… I’m taking 5 classes first semester, too (but one is PE - trying to get that out of the way) and I’m basically booked allll week - especially with the 3 hour labs for Physics. So be sure that things don’t conflict 'cause there are more components to each class than just the lecture, or well for some of them anyways.</p>

<p>Since my schedule is fairly similar, i do not believe it would be diverging to ask my own question here:</p>

<p>Would same schedule, but substituting calc / statistics be any better? I was thinking:</p>

<p>-Stats
-Evolutionary Biology
-Chemistry (course using the AP credits)
-FWS
-Intro to Hebrew</p>

<p>I do not want to over do it first semester, so let me know if it looks too challenging. I feel like it could potentially be a good idea substituting stats with a different/easier class I may find interesting.</p>

<p>If you got a 4 or 5 on the BC calculus test, why would you need to take Calc I?</p>

<p>Hey, I know what you mean. I have the same problem. You can petition to take extra credits. Also, I thought PE counted for 1 credit towards the 18 credits…</p>

<p>I’m not really interested in taking multivariable or linear algebra. I may at a later time but math just doesn’t interest me all that much.</p>

<p>i was thinking of postponing spanish anyway but im curious feral, it takes up a lot of time? i know some languages (like mandarin) do but i thought spanish would be one of the easier ones. anyway, thank you.</p>
