want to transfer my gpa is less than impressive

Ok so I want to transfer from University of Mary Washington preferably to New College of Florida, a school i originally was accepted to when i was applying to schools in high school. Id be applying for transfer as a sophomore for next fall. The problem is however for a variety of reasons I failed my french class first semester and despite getting b's everywhere else it pushed my GPA down to a 2.2 which means even though i technically qualify for transfer i seriously doubt i could even get into a school half as good as UMW and in high school that was my safety school that i fooled myself into liking more than the other schools i got into lol. My grades this semester at the half way point are an A, A-, B+, and a B, however, any college will not see those grades if I am applying for next semester. I really dislike the school so it would stand to reason that i dont have a huge amount of extra curriculars and things like that my high school transcript is great but that doesnt seem to matter much with transfer. I guess my question is do i have any shot at all of getting into NCF or any school for that matter better or atleast on par with UMW in my current situation. I could wait and apply next semester for as a second semester sophomore but even then assuming my grades remain the same my gpa is still going to be slightly bellow a 3.0. Do I have to wait till my Junior year to have a shot at transferring away or do i have a shot somehow this semester or next in going somewhere else?
