Hello everyone,
I am a freshman at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, and since day one I have hated it. I was looking at my transfer options within one month of getting here, but was talked out of it and told to wait until the end of the year. Well, the end of the year is approaching and I need help picking a school to apply to, although I probably won't transfer until my second semester sophomore year because deadlines are coming up or have passed and I haven't even started with my search for a new school.

So with that being said, does anyone have any schools they could recommend for me?

Some stuff about myself:
Graduated with a 3.29 GPA in High School, and I have a 3.33 at Brandeis.
Scored 1940 on SAT (700 W, 660 CR, 580 M)
Took SAT II: 630 World History, 700 U.S. History
History Major on a pre-law track.

What I'm looking for in a school:

*Relatively large (probably in between 5-15000 students - Brandeis has 3300, which is too small for my taste)
*Close to or in a major city
*No religious affiliation (though Brandeis is officially "nonsectarian", it is still heavily Jewish)
*Has a large assortment of clubs and supports athletics
*Social atmosphere

I live and have a part-time job in Massachusetts, so I'm looking for something that is preferably in the Boston area, but I'm open to other suggestions too.

Thanks!

I would look into the following schools:

Boston University

Northeastern University

University of Connecticut

Syracuse University

Penn State University

University of Pittsburgh

Drexel University

University of Michigan

University of Wisconsin-Madison

George Washington University

American University

University of Maryland: College Park

College of William and Mary

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

University of Miami

University of Florida

University of South Florida

University of Washington

Brandeis is better than most of the above ^ schools.

I have a question though, since I’m really into Brandeis and I applied to transfer there; what is wrong with the school? Isn’t it top-notch academically and close to Boston? That’s how I view Brandeis, but since you go there, you probably know more. I’m not a Jew too, actually- I’m a Muslim. Not the ones you see on TV though.

^ You can just pm me if you want.

Schools I suggest: BU & Northeastern, but Brandeis is better.

So what? The OP wants to leave Brandeis at all costs. He/she hates it.

True, I understand that now.

I just thought that maybe he can make a step upwards and go to even a better school [with a better social scene]. For example, Georgetown [better school, better social scene] and in DC and GWU [considering his History major]. I wanted to suggest schools with similar quality of students. While parties are fun at times, academics are more important most of the time. BU wouldn’t work in that case.

I’ve heard that Brandeis has an ugly campus…and I know this one somali girl that went there…but i do know it’s a top-notch liberal arts school…

your stats are competitive but try raising your gpa. Also, try making your experience a little different so you can start to like it…at least while you’re there

btw…tufts isn’t that nice…trust me… (in terms of the social aspect)

@milanista: that’s so cool! a fellow muslim CCer I’m muslim too. When I researched about colleges I would also check if they have a good Muslim Student Association (MSA)…it’s also a plus if they have halal/kosher food too i guess…

@Eastafrobeauty: just a note, Brandeis is not a liberal arts school, it’s a private,national research Unviersity =)

That’s so cool! haha I’m thinking you’re African too? I am from Egypt =) Too bad I didn’t check the MSA nor the food at my current college. And here I am, in a school with very, very few Muslims [ I think 5 students] and no halal or kosher food anywhere near. It’s a part of the reason why I am transferring.

About Tufts, I believe Tufts is incredibly amazing <3 in EVERY aspect! Not so great about sports I guess, but friendly people =)

@milanista: haha yeah! im African ! Somali…and like 25% yemeni…if that counts for anything LOL. Tufts is a really good school I’m not gonna lie about that! but i just watched this video on youtube …and they didn’t rave too much about their social scene…but then again it’s different for everybody …(i actually watched a lot of the schools i was interested in…even just for fun)

[YouTube - theU.com - Tufts: “Intro”](<a href=“theU.com - Tufts: "Intro" - YouTube”>theU.com - Tufts: "Intro" - YouTube) <— you should watch this! they divide it into other videos- social scene, location, food, acdemics…etc.
