Hello everyone,
My names is erwan, I am an high school student in France. It's the time to prepare my future, and I decided to study in a foreign country. I think North America would be great but, I have really no idea about how life is there, and how campus are ?

So, let me describe the kind of college I am looking for, and then try to figure me out which correspond the most to this description !

I imagine the College of my dreams, in a Urbanized / Sub-Urbanized environnement, close to downtown with possibility to meet people, hang out. Some libraries and caf

agree went to BU. Loved it but NOT whats described. Univ of Chigaco would be a match but Chicago is cold as heck in the winter. Harvard is a good match too. Consider Tufts, north suburb of Boston or maybe Boston College but BC is Jesuit school and likely less progressive.

What do you think about Boston University ? Is it a good University? I really don’t know the global reputation of University in USA… A friend of mine who is accepted at Harvard told me that it was the place were all people rejected from H went - I doubt- It seems a bit pretentious but is it true?

What about hazing ? Is it a reality or a media-fantasy?

How much can you afford? American universities are vastly more expensive than their European counterparts.

Also, no college in LA is particularly old. One of the oldest is UCLA, which fits all of your criteria but is both difficult to get into and extremely expensive for non Californians.

Given that Harvard rejects 94% of applicants, most of whom are extremely qualified, I wouldn’t reject any school on the basis that it’s where Harvard rejects go.

You’re right about everything, but I just want to know the reputation of those University to figure out which one will be my “favorite” one. Understand, that it’s difficult to form an opinion when you are +6000km away from there.

BU does not have a classic treesy quadrangle but it does have some greensward along the Charles river and is a couple of T stops from the Boston Commons. BU does have a lot of the other criteria the OP is seeking.

Erwan, based on your moyenne and your ECs, right now, many schools people have quoted above are above your reach OR are possible matches but only if your parents can pay $40,000 a year.
You’d need 16 moyenne g

Thanks for your replies,
Yes, I can afford about 20/30 000$ / year; but it have to worth the while (understand that my parent would not allow me to go if the university is low ranked or anything else)

I am in a Jesuit Boarding School, where I could have recommendations from everybody.

I am going through a Scientific Series; with the Advanced Mathematics for my Senior Year !

I forget to mention that I planned to pass the SAT, plus three SAT Subjects Test (Maths II, Physics and Computer Science) I had between 750 and 800
at all my Maths I try.

UCLA fits most of your criteria well, as would many other schools in California (Stanford, Berkeley, etc.) Unfortunately, the schools that would accept you and your parents would accept (UCLA/Berkeley) you probably couldn’t afford. I’m not sure if Stanford gives tuition scholarships to international students. If it doesn’t then that’s unaffordable too.

I know this is not a Chance topic, but in my case everything is linked…
I discussed with my parents and they are able to fund at a level of 40000$/y.
So, do you know Universities which most fit to my criterias and where I have a decent chance to be accepted to? I want to establish a list of 5/6 Universities from the brightest (where my chances are the lower) to the brightless (where my chances are maximum). The most importants criterias for me are :
Innovation (Startups, Relations with ventures ect)
Campus Life (Sports, ECs, Architecture)
Prestige (Are this university recognized outside the US?)
Computer Science/Engineering Dpt (How good are they?)

I would really thanks you for your advices and input, it’s great for people who really don’t know the “US University World” to know they can count on great people like you!
