There are two schools that I’m in love with…MIT and Northwestern. MIT isn’t a realistic possibility as I have maybe a 5% chance of admission EA, but my parents don’t want me to bind myself to NU because they see MIT as the better option even though I have like zero chance.
it’s so difficult to get in RD for Northwestern and I fear I’m killing any chance of getting in by not using my ED. Tried to explain this to my parents but they wouldn’t listen. Sadly, I’m probably not getting in…I feel like I would have a decent shot with an ED too. Overexaggerated sigh
Its time to eliminate the thought of being in “love” with ANY college where your chances of admission are low- and that means the most competitive colleges, where acceptance is a long shot for any student, simply because of the numbers of students applying. It wont do you any good and will blind you to the importance of finding other colleges where you DO have a good chance of acceptance. If your parents wont commit to allowing you to applying ED to NU, then move on.
What do you want someone to tell you? You cannot apply ED without your parent’s consent. And students who focus on highly competitive “dream college’s” often are hurt by the college process.
Keep in mind that people here volunteer time to try to help students through the college application process. You are free to ignore comments you don’t find helpful but rudeness is uncalled for.
Have you shown your parents data that would support your pov? Ie; ED vs RD admit rates for Northwestern as well as admit rates and testing profile for MIT.
Perhaps that can sway them
