Wanted to apply to Bucknell daunted by length of application

As I looked into colleges, I knew I wanted to go to either Bucknell or Bates

Bucknell has a 30% acceptance rate. To apply, one must explain why one wants to pursue a certain major, write three up to 200 word blurbs, and write an optional 500 word essay(only chance for me, its already a reach). I feel like the common app wont help me with this one :(. See my thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1060060-colleges-im-interested-can-i-get-into.html for my stats.

So, the question I have for the reader is this: should I scrap my plans to apply to Bucknell and apply to a different reach school, and if so which one(s) or should I just go through with the excessive application.

Well, if you don’t want to do what the application calls for, then clearly you don’t really want to go to Bucknell all that badly. Only you can answer that question. None of us can.

Agreed with Pizzagirl… if you can’t handle several very short essays that you’ve had months to complete, you can’t really want to go there too badly.

Consider that Bucknell’s requirements are there for a good reason.

You think Bucknell’s bad? Try Wake Forest!! Their application is interminable and constantly whines and badgers you, “why Wake Forest, why Wake Forest???” You have to write more for Wake Forest than for any other college! On top of that ridiculousness, they then insist on interviewing you on Skype and ask questions like, “if you had 15 minutes with the President, what would you tell him?” Why should my social concerns or politics be fair game for an interviewer? It’s just nuts, I’m telling you – it’s as if they want HYPMS to be HYPWF!! They really needs to get over themselves down there, at least untill they can put together a decent basketball team.

Agree with PizzaGirl, my Son did not complete an application for that very reason! The essays really were daunting to him, so he did not apply after a visit & an interview.
