(¯`•¸·´¯) wanting a new camera (¯`·¸•´¯)

i am looking for a new digital camera. preferably Sony. most important is that it must have an Imgae Stabiliser feature. also somewhere within 3.2 - 4 megapixels.

any suggestions?

No suggestions, but HOW did you decorate the title??? Just wondering. :)

I have a Fuji that I like a lot. What price range are you looking for? Other features? The marketplace is full of digis and they all have different features. I happen to like the short movies I can take........

warble, google ASCII characters. :)

hazmat: i don't really know what price range, since different countries different prices and what may be US$2000 may be US$1500 here. but roughly, below $500. and the movie thingy is not impotant since i have a video cam. the image stabiliser is the MOST important feature. and if possible, the camera can take good pictures with low level of noise at night.

what's your Fuji model?

Fuji FinePix S7000 in your price range has the stabilizer you asked about.

We have that finepix camera---it is, well....fine!

i'd recommend the Canon Digital Elph, SD400....i have a Sony, and yeah..it's a great Camera..but...i bought my sister an SD400 for her birthday and wish i'dda kept it :p...it's great...so small and lightweight, easy to carry around with you almost anywhere.....pictures are fabulous, and even pictures i take(with my shaky hands) come out fantastic.

the DSCs are decent cameras (great for portability) but they lack in features..

Get a Canon Powershot. Mine's an A520 and it works great. It's 4.0 megapixels....but Canon Powershots are easy to use and have a lot for the price. Other brands with comparable camera's would be a lot more expensive. I did a lot of research before I bought mine, and looked at the Consumer Reports magazine that came out just in time and had everything about everything about digital cameras. I'm telling you...the Powershot is HIGHLY recommended!!!

why would you want a sony... get a Canon Powershot A80... i got mine the christmas before last for $350 and now they only cost like $200... and they are sooo awesome... foldout LCD screen, fits in pocket, 4 megapixels, everything you need.

Sony DSC 200 - 7.2 mp (way above your range, but fits into the price range.) It's got everything you need, its a great camera (read the review at dpreviews.com) and the price hovers around $350. Particularly, the battery life is awesome.

okay forget about what i said about the sony. im open to all brands. :)

thanks guys for your replies. i checked the fuji, but my parents (who's buying it for me) took one look and said, "SOOOOO BIG!!!!!!" however, i liked a model - the panasonic LUMIX series - and now i'm debating between a powershot or a LUMIX.

Powershot......:D

um...any particular reasons why you would choose a power**** over the lumix? one thing about canon is, i think, that i m paying more for the Direct Printing feature, which I never use.

and these all have the image stabilizer that you "have to have"??

I have a Canon Powershot A95... and i love it.

get something that has optical zoom and at least 3 megapixels.

make sure you get rechargeable batteries.

Go to dpreview.com. Click on Buying Guide & then Features Search. You can specify image stabilization, max price, megapixels, & lots more. Once you've got a list of possiblities, read the reviews there & at megapixel.net. Also, read the forums at dpreview as they have a LOT of information.

From my personal research, I know that the Panasonic Lumix FZ5 (around $350 in the US) is highly regarded. (I have an FZ1 & really like it.) Sony has the H1 (not sure about reviews) and is coming out with the more expensive (but sounding very good) R1. If you are serious about wanting good pictures with low noise levels at night, you're looking at digital SLRs. The Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D is the least expensive (about $700) with image stabilization.

I believe all of the cameras I mentioned have more megapixels than you want, but you may be able to search and find available models with fewer megapixels.

Good luck!
