My 7th grade son wants to go to MIT. He is a high achiever, top of his class and plays 5 instruments. He wants to be a scientist for NASA. What do we need to do to get in?

I don’t know much about MIT but here’s some nice information you could check out if you haven’t already. good luck to your son.
[MIT | Massachusetts Institute of Technology | Best College | US News](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/massachusetts-institute-of-technology-2178)

Well, you’re on the right track. If he can become a high-profile scientist at NASA, he’ll have a shot at MIT.

I’m pretty sure Obama wants to cut funding for NASA.

Obama has already cut funding for NASA, no doubt forced by the GOP Congress.

^true, but lets not get this thread shut down before this guy gets his answers

Show a lot of interest in whatever subject he is currently gearing towards but joining, clubs and doing other activities outside of school. Really good things, like a research project or internship, probably wont come until 10th or 11th grade, but for now he can do a lot of research and reading about his career interest (just to see if he likes it or not(

4.0 UW GPA

???

the person with the most power to make your son’s dreams come true is your son. The best thing you can do for him is continue to be a loving parent.

There is no music major and so playing 5 instruments wont help.

MIT expects the student to be very strong in Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. So doing the toughest schedule in those areas going forward will help. Interest in research, doing actual research or engineering/computer related work outside of school will help. Having a real interest in STEM areas and doing whatever he can to expand his horizons outside of school curriculum will always help.
