Wanting to Transfer from University of San Francisco To CSU or UC (need some guidance

I just recently started school as a freshman at the University of San Francisco and can already tell that I am not going to like it here. It's incredibly expensive and I am now realizing that this school is nowhere worth the $50,000 dollar a year tuition. I am looking to transfer to San Diego State University or UC Irvine. I never applied to UCI, but I applied to SDSU out of highschool and didn't get in. I should add that I am a california resident and live in Irvine and am about 5 mins. from UCI and an hour from sdsu. I had the grades but it is such an impacted school. Anyway I am wondering how should I go about transferring? Should I wait a semester and just get real good grades, or should I wait a year? The thing is I made a really stupid decision to come to this school and I don't want to be $50,000 down so I would like to transfer out asap. Also my GPA in highschool was a 3.4 with some AP's and my ACT is 25. Please let me know what I should do. Thanks.

Also ask on the UC Transfers subforum.

The UCs take community college transfers students first–your best bet is to just go to CCC for the first 2 years. If you get good grades, you should be able to transfer into the UC of your choosing. (HS grades won’t even matter at that point.)

As a private college transfer with even just a year college, your application will be low priority. Even with 2 years (transferring in as a junior) your app would be near the bottom of the pile.

If you really want to be top priority for transfer, CCC is the way to go. Not very sexy, but your final degree still says “UC”.

Transfer ASAP!! UCI is a better school and tuition is a fraction of what you’re paying now.

Go to a commmunity college and take classes to fulfill IGETC and TAG. Check this out… [Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) - Fall 2011](http://www.admissions.uci.edu/admissions_info/transfer_admission/tag.html)

Damn, do you hate USF that much? I was considering it because SFSU is so full even though it’s so darn expensive.

You can’t even compare the two. It makes no sense to say one is better than the other, since, in many instances UCI would be a downgrade from USF, especially now.
What does the OP intend to study?
If you were Nursing or Law, you would be crazy to switch, independent of $ considerations.
sorry… just my opinion. i always laugh at such rash statements.

UCI won’t be a possibility until you’re a junior and don’t know if SDSU will be a possibility next fall, but no CSUs are taking spring transfers. As said above, go to a CCC for your best shot as a transfer.

@Redrose Who told you Cal States aren’t accepting spring transfers? As of now most CSU’s are saying they will accept spring transfers.

Once again cecilturtle. I am an enviro science major and believe me UCI has a better science program than USF. please don’t leave another comment. I was looking for help, not criticism.

No need to trash USF. But mostly, pls accept my apologies for jumping on you.
Sounds like a good plan. Peace to you BigBenny.
